BOO Paes yy Vie SOM Below is the citation given to A. Flanagan, this year's winner of the Raybestos-Manhattan Community Aw- ard. Active member and past president of Cassiar Curling Club. Provides support for Junior foot- ball and Junior hockey. Active in fund raising activities for the building of the Centenn- ial Arena and Lions Club Swimming Pool. Active member of Cassiar Club of Lions International. More than generous with his time and talents in the furtherance of activities and welfare of Cassiar a) generous with his home and table when domestic problems of others have required it. b) generous with his time and car when needed to assist our native children. c) always willing and available, if due to accident or illness his services are required to operate the ambulance or to assist in any other way. d) has a warm heart and open arms for many of the children of our community. These are just a few of the act- ivities Al has been associated with in the past 6 years. Not detailed were his activities with the minor hockey and fastball clubs. When ice time was limited last year it wasn't unusual to see Al in the hockey arena at 6:00 a.m. coaching and advising th youngsters. ‘This year will give no relief to Al as he has recently been appointed director of the newly ele- ected executive of the Hockey Arena. Junior Fastball was also an area in which Al helped the youngsters, eithe as coach, umpire, advisor, or just a kit manager. One of his duties as a Lions men- ber has been to conduct the weekly 16 bottle drive, an endeavor which has constantly swelled the coffers of the Lions Club, to be redistributed in the town. The Vets Association, one of the newest organizations in town, is another club which Al is a member of and although the organization is new Al has assisted in the parade and distribution of poppies for many years. All these activities take time and effort but we are sure that Al will continue to involve himself in the community and where there is a need Al will be there with a helping hand. A gala evening of dancing was enjoy- ed by the restdents of Casstar at tne Frreman's Ball where Al Flanagan received the Raubestos-Manhattan Community Award. at a + Pry n x
