A small quantity of petroleum was struck in the upper part of the well. — During the summer of 1916 boring operations were conducted at the upper end of Vermilion chutes and at a point on Peace river 17 miles below Peace River Crossing. At Vermilion chutes boring was carried to a depth of 860 feet through Devonian limestone and shale. The upper beds are porous and impregnated with
