Cassiar Courier the Voice of Cassiar Country MAY 1986 10 cents Hospital Society Board members elected Pat Borsato At a recent meeting of the Cassiar Hospital Society, the following people were elected to the Board: Pat Borsato - 3 year term Frank Buckley - 3 year term Judy Sikora - 3 year term Betty Studd - 2 year term Rita Brown - | year term The officers and board members are as follows: Chairman - Frank Buckley Vice-Chairman -.Pat.Lanphear Treasurer - Judy Sikora Board Members - Pat Borsato - Betty Studd - Rita Brown - Judy Walker - John Marks - Rosemary Clarke The hospital board has continued to make improve- ments to the physical facilities of the hospital a top prior- ity. Approximately $185,000 was spent over the fiscal year on such projects as installation of a new heating sys- tem, new roof, replacement of windows, entrance doors and extensive interior renovations. The board has already applied for more funding for the upcoming fiscal year. This will include such projects as installation of new walk- ways, wheelchair ramp, and further interior renovations to the hospital ward. As mentioned in last year’s report to the society, we requested funds for new automated laboratory equipment. This funding was approved and the equipment is now in Rita Brown Frank Buckley — Chairman operation. Our laboratory and x-ray facilities are now second to none for hospitals of similar size. Many members of the society may not be aware that the society owns and maintains three residences in the community to house hospital staff. This year, the board has renovated its property at 228 Kennedy Street to ensure that hospital staff coming to the community have comfortable and affordable housing. The Cassiar Hospital Society is one of the few societies in the province which can offer this benefit to its staff. This gives us a great advantage in attracting staff and ensuring stability in staffing, which has been evident over the past three years. The board’s major objective at the moment is the Judy Sikora — Treasurer Betty Studd’ attainment of full hospital accreditation. Last year we allowed ourselves two years to prepare ourselves for the accreditation survey with the Canadian Council on Hos- pital Accreditation. By this time next year we hope to be able to apply for our survey. Our first step in this process was to prepare a state- ment of mission for the hospital which outlines the philo- sophy and services the hospital intends to provide to the community. We have also been busy upgrading and reviewing the policies and procedures which govern the hospital’s operation. The board looks forward to the challenges of the upcoming year and the continued support of the society’s membership. Erickson announces earnings Total Erickson Resources Ltd. announces that for the year ending December 31, 1985, its consolidated net oper- ating earnings after tax amounted to $393,887 or $0.02 per common share outstanding. Total Erickson is the continuing company resulting from the acquisition of Total Eastcan Exploration Ltd. by Erickson Gold Mines Ltd. The former sole shareholder of Total Eastcan now owns the majority of Total Erickson’s shares, and the acquisition has been treated for accounting purposes as an acquisition by Total Eastcan of the busi- ness and assets of Erickson. The comparative net opera- ting earnings for 1984 are those of Total Eastcan alone, and amounted to $1,691,749. If the combination had been effective throughout the years ended December 31, 1985 and 1984 the consol- -,.“idated net-operating earnings would have shown an im- provement from a loss of $1.7 million in 1984 to a profit of $316,000 in 1985. As a result of the write-off by Total Erickson’s affil- iated company, Ranchmen’s Resources Ltd., of its east coast offshore assets, the carrying value of the investment in Ranchmen’s has been reduced by the Company’s pro- portional share. After conversion of the Ranchmen’s convertible debentures held by the Company, Total Erickson would hold. approximately 55% of the total outstanding shares of Ranchmen’s. The writedowns resulted in a final 1985 loss of $9.9 million or $0.45 per share. The final 1984 loss was $8.3 million. The on-shore exploration activity of Ranchmen’s resulted in a net addition of 1.2 million barrels (2.7 times its 1985 production) to its oil reserves and of 1.2 Bcf _ (2.4 times its 1985 production) to its gas reserves.
