Gourmet @Gorner ORIENTAL SHRIMP SALAD 2c. fresh bean sprouts (or) 1 16 oz. can drained. 2 c. cooked shrimp. 1 c. chow mien noodles. 1 S oz. can water chestnuts, drain- ed and sliced. 1/4 c. green onion sliced. 1/4 c. celery sliced. SOY MAYONNAISE 3/4 c. mayonnaise 1 tbsp. lemon juice. 1 tbsp. soy sauce 3/8 tsp. ginger. 1/2 tsp. monosodium glutamate (Accent) Cook sprouts in boiling, salted water 2 - 3 min. Drain, chill. If canned, rinse in cold water but do not cook, Combine rest of ingredients; mix with Soy Mayonnaise. Serve on lettuce - 4 - 6 servings. * * * COLD BANANA SOUFFLE! 4 eggs. 3 egga yolks. 1/2 c. granulated sugar. 2 tbsp. plain gelatin ( 2 envelopes 1/4 c. dark run. 1 c. well-mashed ripe bananas. 1 c. whipped cream. Orange-Maple Sauce. Beat eggs, egg yolks and sugar with an electric beater for 15 min. or until very thick and pale in colour. Meanwhile, soften gelatin in rum and dissolve over hot water. Beat rum into egg mixture, add mashed banana, fold in stiffly beat- en cream. Scrape into 6 cup mold - Chill until set. 7 - 8 servings. ORANGE-MAPLE SAUCE Combine 1c. orange juice. 2 tbsp. grated orange rind. lc. maple syrup. Simmer in saucepan until sauce is slightly thickened. Serve warm with souffle. * * * GARDENING - Our gardening in Cassiar is very limited but here are a few tips which maybe of some help to the beginner. The perennial which most of us have, should be cut down to about 6 inches above the ground before our first snow. A good wind/snow breaker is to put the cuttings or any such material over them. _ Bulbs too, should be started and planted for the coming spring. at this time. Usually an average of 5 - 6 inches below the soil is sufficient. The soil should be tightly packed to avoid winter killing. It is hoped there will be a variation of annuals and perennials for the ambitious gardeners in the coming year. These will be prepar- ed in flats and available from May - June next year. * xk
