WinterFest February 14th and 15th UNBC’s Third Annual WinterFest will be held on campus on Friday, February 14th, and Saturday, the 15th. Like last year, events will include a paper airplane contest in the Admin. Atrium, the World’s Worst Lecture competition, a chemistry magic show, and a loonie breakfast (tickets for which will be available shortly). New this your will be a Winter Olympics (six-person teams will soon have the opportunity to sign up) and a UNBC Timberwolves basketball challenge. On the Friday, about 500 high school students will be visiting the campus, and academic programs and student clubs are invited to put up a display in the Agora. There PADGETT SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDES RELIEF FOR LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS The current economy has created numerous concerns for local businesses, especially independent entrepreneurs. Among these concerns is the challenge of providing adequate funding for their children’s education. Sensitive to this situation, Padgett Business Service is offering a $500 scholarship to the son or daughter of a local independent business owner. “Maintaining a quality, profitable operation has presented the small business owner with challenges that are not always faced by larger corporations,” - Stromgren. “Further; the resources of big business often are not available to the operators of smaller organizations.” Padgett Scholarship applicants must be graduating high school seniors who plan to attend a post-secondary accredited institution. In addition, the legal guardian of the student must be an active owner of at least 10 percent of noted: will be a series of events in the Winter Garden, including - music, fun competition (courtesy of the crew at the Fitness Centre), and club demonstrations. The deadline for applying is March 1, 1997. The award will be based on applicant test scores, high school grade point averages, and educational and career plans. the winner will be announced in May. The local award is part of an international program in which Padgett Business Services will offer more than $50,000 in scholarships throughout North America. Since 1990, the Padgett Business Services Scholarship Program has awarded over $150,000 to dependents of small business owners. All local winners will become eligible for a grand prize scholarship of $4,000. A financial reporting and tax planning service for. small business owners, Padgett has been in operation since 1966.
