Yes, I agree with the law. It's not
but if there's a lot of dogs running
around loose they tend to form packs,
and dogs are especially a hazard when
this happens. Owners of dogs should
take their pet on regular walks to pro-
vide them with the exercise they need.

all the time. If someone decides to .
own a dog, then he should be respons-
ible for it. Owners should take their
dogs with them on camping trips and
other outings to let them run around
freely. It's too bad, but so many
people love to take care of a puppy,

can smell them everywhere on a damp day.

I think they should be tied up or fenced
in, especially females in heat. A pack
of males following a bitch in heat around
town can get pretty dangerous.

QUESTION:

In the past month or so, there has
been a dramatic increase in the num-
ber of children and adults who have
been bitten by dogs. While most of
these wounds have not been severe,
one or two have required numerous
stiches. Some of the attacks have
been the result of unfair teasing on
the part of the children, while others
have been completely unprovoked. A-
nother problem of the rather large
dog population in Cassiar is their
annoying habit of overturning garbage
cans and spreading the contents all
over the roads and yards.

B.C. law states that all dogs must be
restrained and not allowed to roam
freely. Do you agree with this law,
or can you offer any suggestions and
comments to the problems and hazards

I've got two dogs of my ow and I a-
gree they should be tied up, or at
least supervised. Someone should be
hired to enforce the law and stray
dogs should be put away. I've not
had any problems with the garbage be-
cause I make sure the lids are on
tight. Still, there are a lot of
dogs in town. A vet should be brought
into town to provide a neutering ser-
vice.

Yes, I agree with the law. A dog-
catcher from outside of town should

be hired to come in now and then to
pick up all dogs running free. I
don't think we should wait untill a
child is badly maimed before we do
something about the dog problem. Reg-
ular visits to town by a vet would en-
able owners to have females spayed,

I agree with the law. However, a dog
should be allowed to move around without
a leash as long as someone is there to
control it--assuming that it's been
well trained to obey commands.

Something should definitely be done. At-
tempts have been made over the past sev-
eral years, but there's never been a
satisfactory solution. I basically apg-
ree with the law if it includes proper
supervision without a leash as a means
of restraint. It's nice to allow a dog
to run free, Due when you start having
problems as we're seeing now, there has
to be some compromise.

You can't blame the dogs wie causing |
the trouble--it's the owner's re-—
sponsibility to keep them under con-
trol and to take them out for exercise
once or twice a week. Dogs at large
should be Deed up and put away.
