Local band Single Car Garage open for Tom Cochrane, January 30. Tom Cochrane Rides Life’s Highway Again Mircu GRANT Puoro Eviror On January 30, local soft rock group Single Car Garage opened at a half full CN Center for the aging Tom Cochrane and Red Rider, setting the stage for a night of smooth tones adult soft rock, and great bald bassists. While the crowd had some younger audience members, it seemed most were hauled there by their age thirty or. forty something parents wanting to hearken back to days long lost in the process of graying and receding hair lines, expanding waists and severe fashion changes and re-emergences. The remaining members of the audience sitting around their twen- ties were those wanting to watch a Tom Cochrane’s greatest hit show from the artist’s videos as seen on Country Music Television. However, this does not mean that it was by any means a bad show. With the three man Single Car Garage tributing songs to their wives and loved ones and trying to unsuccessfully hold the audience’s participation, they still managed to put on a good show for those who had not seen them before, but appar- ently their sets were nothing new. They were able to maintain an agreeable amount of.energy for an opening act with the bassist playing both the cello and his thirty-plus old axe from when “he still had hair” giving a really strong blues feel to the opening. Mircy Grant, Pooto Eniror ‘When Tom Cochrane took the stage he opened strong, inter- acting with a lively and buzzed audience, with four of his more major hits and then slowing the pace down to play some of his original releases from the first Red Rider albums. At this-point he began to lose some of the younger crowd mem- bers but gained them back shortly there after when his bassist started off an amazing five-minute intro to White Hot. ’ Eading with his #1 hit, Life is a Highway and coming back for a 2-song encore he left the crowd buzzing and dancing on the floor, every member grinning from ear to ear. Ultim- ately, a better show than any I have seen lately (save Blue Man Group). I give it 4 highway potholes out of 5.
