I would like to spend my first editorial
discussing the purpose for having Over
The Edge as the campus newspaper. I
realize that many people do not consider
this publication to be worth the paper it
is printed on and it is to them that I am
primarily wishing to address.

Over The Edge is currently the only

forum available to the students of UNBC.
We try to cover stories and events which
are important to students and faculty. The
paper runs about 3000 copies, which are
distributed throughout Prince George.
Unfortunately, we are volunteer based
and most of our volunteers are students
with classes to pass ourselves.

During the first year of our publication,
the fact that a paper was produced at all
is a testament to the people who made it

improving this year, but we would like
to see a significant rise in the numbers of
opinions which come to us. I am a first
year student looking to make this paper
into a respectable forum for your ideas,

without receiving your input. :

The letters which are written to us are
either on trivial issues, such as typos, or
are by people who are really looking for
a chance to receive feedback on their
ideas, I find it discouraging that nobody
takes the time to respond to these people.
[am not asking for people to become full-
time members of Over The Edge, but I
am. looking for people who are willing to
use this forum to its full potential. [know
that we are lacking in certain areas, such
as hard-core news articles; but we do not
have people who are willing to write
them. If you are interested in writing for
Over The Edge, please, come and see us.
We don’t bite and we would really
appreciate the extra help. [f you just want
to discuss the possibilities of writing for
us, contact me at the office. I will be
happy to spend the time discussing what
you want to see in future editions.

With your help, we can make this paper
a very successful and influential forum
for the student body in the years to come.
