Bud Volp and Al Ewart of Esco were missed during the bonspiel, as they have been very welcome and hearty participants during the past several years. In their stead, the Esco Special Prize, to the skip who helped the other team the most, was presented by Kinky Borsato, whose name has been inscribed on the “Great White Trophy” also. Frank Nitti was welcomed into the club with pleasure, and is now a full-fledged member of the “Order of the Big End”’. Ernie Melynk, who is Chief Accountant at Clinton, being true to his profession brought prizes with him for future curling events in Cassiar, but returned home with our premier prize, which must seem to him to be adequate interest on his investment. Mention should also be made of Father Cannon’s rink from Lower Post which finished third in the third event. However to be in accord with the bible, perhaps the Father should have been lead, as the good book does state ‘’Let he who is without sin cast the first stone (rock)”’. KARATE The Cassiar Karate Association is now well established. At the time of going to press there were 20 men enrolled and 6 ladies. Also, the more experienced members are donating their time to instructing some of the older school children in the art of self defence, through Karate. Much credit for enthusiasm being generated in this, our newest organization, goes to Mr. Jack Millar, Mr. George Marriott and Mr. Eric Williams. HOCKEY Featured with his unique trophy is Mr. August Ebbinghoff who was presented with it on scoring his first goal in competition hockey. (The inscription on the lower half of the trophy can best be translated by August himself, so next time you ask him for his autograph, ask him for the translation. Ona more serious note, the competition is now hotting up with the Mine team just ahead of its rivals. At present, the standings are: Vaneco 9 points Wildcats 8 points Tigers 7 points An extra game has now been scheduled for Tuesday nights. This addition should allow the present schedule to be completed by 1st March. March will be taken up with All Star games and several outside clubs have been invited to Cassiar. ** &# & With the beautiful, sunny weather, excellent snow conditions and the Ski Competition taking place, we have come up with some recipes for mixing up some pretty potent “pain killers’’.
