Promotions Director -photo Cameron Rowe Impressions of the Backyard BBQ II -by simon Impressions of the Backyard BBQ Il aré many and varying. In my opin- ion it was an excellent show, if you ignore a few glitches. Most or all of the glitches that were prominant on Saturday were to do with immature underqualified people doing jobs requiring qualified trained person- nel. I am not saying that everyone who was volunteering did a bad job -- in fact most did a terrific job--but a few (one in particular) were trying to renact Roadhouse instead of main- taining the peace and protecting the performers. Another glitch I saw was that communication between the volunteers was crappy to say the least. You had a bunch of first and second years students running around with radios and if you wanted to get in touch with someone, no one had a clue how to do it. The biggest complaint I had with the whole af- fair was that instead of getting a bar- ricade for the mosh, no one bothered to spend the extra money, hence Bif’s untimely ending to her set. Well, that was a little negative... Oh well. On a more positive note, the Beer Garden was handled much bet- ter than last year, (although how can Nathan of Another White Male. -photo Jes Burkitt you get worse than a riot?) The show went as well as can be ex- pected with a little hail and rain. The bands were great. My local fav, twominutehate, was excel- lent as always with their own brand of hard edge sound, espe- cially since they didn’t get elec- trocuted. (BTW there will be an interview with Matt, the basist for twominutehate in the next issue). Another White Male, who is one of my all time favorite bands, was looking and sounding excellent, especially since Nathan, the lead singer, was wearing my old, (now his new PVC trenchcoat). Bif, of what we got to see, was in rare form, who after getting her tooth chipped, wanted to come back out and play for us. About Bif, she is the nicest, most polite media icon I have ever met in my entire life. I could not say enough about that talented young lady, but there is an article especially about her in this paper as I speak...or whatever. Well, I must hand it to Brenda for organizing this concert, she did all one person could do. All in all I had a great time and hope every- one who went felt the same.
