Operation Identification by Paul Wood OPERATION IDENTIFICATION is a pare pre- vention program initiated by the RCMP to aid home owners to identify and mark their valuables and to help them make their homes more secure from break ins. The Cassiar Lions Club is spearheading this project in the area. Lions Club members distribute marking pencils to homeowners aud instruct them in their use. Anyone can use the pens, They are completely harmless, but because they have a hard tip which vibrates at high _ speed, they are able to mark an identification code or number on any surface - be it glass, porcelain or hardened steel. The important thing to remember is this: Lions Members do not enter your home to mark your per- sonal valuables. You do the marking, unless you spec- ifically ask that they do so and have the items ready for marking. After you have engraved your number. on all your valuables and have listed the serial numbers of your possessions you simply call the RCMP local detach- ment and an officer will visit your home to ensure that items have been marked. Before he leaves, the visiting officer will then place special markers on your TV’s, radios, stereos, etc. He will also place a special sticker on your windows and doors warning would-be thieves that your possessions have all been marked for identification. This program has proved extremely successful Now you’ve got one! ‘This is an indispensable item for everbody. For years people have been saying: “‘I’ll do it as so- on as I get a ‘ROUND TUIT’”.
