GaSSiar COMmmmunity lite and living Cassiar is a frontier town. It started as a tent town before the mine existed. It has yet to celebrate its twenty- fifth birthday. It is not perfect. But every year something new is added for the com- fort, enjoyment or utility of its citizens — many of these new facilities being the pro- jects of imaginative and creative people who call Cassiar ‘home’. In fact it’s the people who make a town. They are the ones who give it character, fill it with activity and make it hum. Cassiar has a population of about 1,500. Because it is an unincorporated town the company provides all normal municipal services. Sewer, water, roads, street light- ing, and garbage collection are provided at no direct cost to those who are employed by the company. Electrical power and fuel oil are available as required at a reason- able cost. Once established in Cassiar, it is possible to purchase vacated houses or trailers. Or, subject to occupation and seniority consid- erations, you may build your own home through a company assistance program, or install a trailer on a serviced lot. Present single accommodations are being gradually improved. They are cleaned on a regular basis and changes of linen are pro- vided at the laundry when soiled linen is turned in.
