1 8 W fe E PG M U S | me S c- E N F OVER THE EDGE NEWSPAPER. OCTOBER 27 , 2006 Lazarus Making Metal Go Down Easy Artist/ Band name: Lazarus Genre/style: Melodic Heavy Metal Members and instruments: 5 mem- bers, Caleb McDonald drummer, Nick Fetterly singer, Dallas Compo and Khody Bogdan 2 guitars, Dan Beaulieau bass Year formed: 2003/2004 Label: no label yet How you got started: just a few bud- dies wanting to play music is how we started Influences: Nick: Lamb of God, God Forbid, In Flames, Black Dahlia Murder, Arch Enemy. We all have a few different in- fluences Best part of being in a band: Nick: Probably that I know I've got good solid dudes I can depend on look to and trust, that's a key factor for my- self. Cale: The best part about being in a band for me is that it’s just a good way to fuckin’ rock out with your buddies and get good friendships going and you cant forget about getting drunk and all that shit either. Worst part of being in a band: Nick: Worst part, I work in Edmon- ton so being away from the band is the worst part for me. Cale: The worst part about being in a band is that, for anyone that is or has been or wants to be in a band, that its super tough to find guys that all click to- gether even they arentt all into the same shit outside of playing in a metal band they just fit together when it comes to playing and to me that's all that matters. Biggest problem (for the band): Nick: I believe the biggest problem in our band is that we can't decide what kind of beer to drink. Cale: There's No Big Problems unless someone doesn't show up for a show in which case that really blows balls. (Knock on wood) won't happen Favourite band memory: Nick: All the memories are awesome. On tour I'd listen to a little John Denver and a whole lot of metal. Cale: My favorite band memory is every time we get on that stage as one fuckin’ rockin’ sock'em metal show noth- ing better. Tf you could open for any artist in the world, living or dead, who would it be: Nick: I'd open for Death. One of the best metal bands of all time Cale: If I could open up for any band dead or alive I would have to say I would want to open up for Iron Maiden or Me- tallica (with Jason Newstead) because those bands really got me into metal and playing the drums from the start. Best place to perform: Nick: In Prince George the best place to perform is the Generator. But one day I'd like to play in the Hammersmith theatre. Cale: The best place to perform is on a stage with your friends and hot chicks everywhere but I have only dreamed about that place What are you listening to, reading, or watching right now (books, movies, vid- eogames, sports, hobbies, etc): Nick: Right now I'm watching Mar- ried with Children and I am half way through the book The Celestin Prophecy. Cale: At this very time I'm lis- tening to my good buddy Brad Un- terhoffer play a Testament Song Called Souls Of Black (pretty rad) I'm not going to lie though I don't really read at all unless its a drum- ming magazine or a porno. Future plans: Nick: Future plans are to see where the band goes and how far we can take it. I am also a construc- tion contractor and hope to see my company flourish in years to come. Cale: My Future plans include getting my plumbing apprentice over with in about 3 years and just to continue drumming and playing with my crew in a fuckin’ awesome band that hopefully never stops even if we dont get famous who really cares its all about the music and if at least 1 person is into it then that’s rad enough. Where can we see you next? I'll take a stab at where you will be able to see us next and say the Gener- ator. Where can we buy your merchan- dise-- and what is your coolest mer- chandise? Nick: Well we only had enough money to make t-shirts and long sleeves shirts, you can pick them up at our gigs at the merch booth and also at Electron Sound and Per- cussion. We also have a four song CD released that is also available at the same places; we are hoping to release a full length record in the near distant future, Cale: You can buy our merch at shows just come talk to us at the booth and we can work something out you could come over mow my lawn I'll hook ya up with a t-shirt or whatever the kids are into these days. Who writes the songs, and what do they mean? For song writing, we all write the songs. Most of our songs are about perseverance and giving everything you have into what you are doing, we try to put a positive feeling behind every song. Key songs by you: “King of This Earth,” “Head On,’“Thy Truth Be Told’ Website: We are currently working on a website. Our website for right now is www.myspace.com/lazarusmetal Fun facts: Nick: I'm not sure of fun facts; we jammed at a guy's house for two years that isn't even in our band, Brad Unter- hopher. Great dude, Cale: Fun facts to us are actually in- criminating facts that we can't just talk about it or time for jail Which local artists do you think should have more publicity? I think all local acts should have more publicity, Prince George has a great music scene and the people should be. more aware of it, we are big players in the metal scene in PG along with a few other great bands and all agree that the people should be made aware of what “musically” is going on in their city. Id say FBI was great in Prince George, and also Widowmaker. ¥ Genre/style: Hardcore Members and instruments: Cody Ross - Throat. Mark Large - Bass and throat. David Rogers - Guitar. What do you think is the best CD/tape/ song/etc made by a local band other than you (ever): Fueled by Ignorance (We think they were like 1999 or something...can't remember...) Homegrown Hip-Hop Versus Consisting of Shae Morin and Dave Decoine, this hip-hop duo is closer to the sounds of underground rappers like Buck 65 and Sage Francis than gangster. Working with troubled youth inspires them to come out with a positive mes- sage and original music, You can check out their latest album, Silverback, and www.aardskarf.com. Rapscallion Creating a humorous yet honest blend of hip-hop, afrobeat, twangy guitar, and whatever else crosses his mind, Rapscal- lion is one of the most unique voices around, not just in PG, but in hip-hop period, Checkout 2005’s “The Hype,” and wait hopefully for the upcoming “Part of the Problem.” RAPSCALLION
