By Elizabeth Newlands, unclad@ canada.com This week: Kelly O’Bryan’s A touch of Ireland in Prince George. This is what | thought when [| went to Kelly’s. There were 6 of us, all in attendance of a friend, Lou’s birthday. Our reserva- tion was ready when we arrived 10 min early. Unfortunately it took that long for our server to great us. | know | am picky, but is it real- ly too much to ask to pause to acknowledge a new table? Our drinks came as slowly as the Irish independence. As the rest of our party joined us we were still deciding on what to eat. The menu is exten- sive. It is practically a book. With so many different dishes | found it hard to decide. While | was savoring my Kilkeny pint | decided on pub grub called Luscious Lips (chicken fingers). When my meal arrived it was accompa- nied with Pachos, which are waffle potatoes speckled with cheddar. The chicken Ste) was not regular deep fried breaded fingers, but deli- ciously seasoned strips of chicken. They are the best chicken fingers | have ever had. The Pachos are a great variation to the traditional fries, especially with the added cheddar, although | would like to see them with more cheddar. The menu is set up in an inventive way, full meals in one section and lite in the other. Even though | ordered the lite meal, it was still too much for me to finish. Kelly O’Bryan’s did not intend to influence my next dinner, but the chicken was great in a pasta sauce | created the fol- lowing night. The ambiance is a little dark and grungy for me. It would be fine for a pub, but this is a restaurant, defined so by Kelly’s itself and the lack of beer on their menu. If you do visit, be sure to check out the women’s washroom, as there are some fine Irish arses in there. The Irish scene is saturated in many cities such as GET INTO IT http://web.unbc.ca/~phakek _ ELECT KHUMO PHAKE —_ = Vancouver and Calgary, even Prague had too many. It would have been nice to gain one in Prince George, unfor- tunately Kelly O’Bryan’s has a long way to go to live up to Irish standards. My sugges- tion is to greatly improve the service, and bring in more beer, 2 Irish brews on tap does not do justice to the country with the best beer in the world. Kelly O’Bryan’s Neighborhood Restaurant is located at: 1375 2nd Avenue, Prince George, B.C.
