Call for details. peared into the largish puddle in the far corner of Parking lot A. “It was just too weird,” said a girl who would only identify herself as Mindy, “They just, like, drove into the puddle and didn’t, like, come out. | went over to see what was going on and all | saw were some flowered bathing caps and a set of nose plugs floating on the surface of the puddle.” The UNBC Fitness Centre issued a state- ment shortly after the tragedy occurred stating that “the loss of our only varsity level sports team is a great blow to the entire University. This accident is doubly tragic because UNBC is so far along in its sportsplex completion, in only 20 years there is the possi- bility of a full sized gym- nasium and only 5 or 6 years after that perhaps we would have a pool. “ Jim O’Meara, the UNBC Fitness Centre’s Recreation/Sports Intermural Coordinator, was horrified by the announcement of the accident, “Il can’t believe ! worked for 4 years to get a varsity team and they drowned in the parking lot, these peo- ple were supposed to be able to swim, they were the swim team, and they couldn't make it out of the puddle...” There was a mood of shock on Campus after the accident. One amazed student stut- tered “I didn’t even know there was a swim team, does this mean we have a pool?” Authorities are still div- ing to recover the bod- ies and an investigation into the Facilities department to discover why the lot was not maintained is pending.
