Snatch Soundtrack Sony / TVT Michael Occhipinti Creation Dream True North Jay-Z The Dynasty Roc La Familia Roc-A-Fella Records This soundtrack cov- ers a lot of ground! We’re talking every- thing from techno, to reggae, 70’s funk, to Madonna _ (Vintage Madonna!), the very Hebrewish sounding “Hava Nagila” by John Murphy, and the very funny tune “I’m com- ing, I'm coming, I’m coming” by Bobby This album is a collection of work from the famed Canadian songwriter Bruce Cockburn. Although, arranged entire- ly by Guitarist Michael Occhipinty. Normally | can only take a little of his stuff (Cockburn) at a time, if at all. This album is however, totally different! For starters it’s an all instru- mental, and the chosen songs serve very well as Jay-z’s latest from his own (co-owned with Damon Dash and > /E.4F 1 8 ices Burke)Rocafella records is_ stretchin the world from “ghetto to ghetto, gutta to gutta” so come walk with the dynasty through a maze of lyrical acrobatics that stay true to the urban realities we’ve come Byrd. | don’t know if I’d buy it, but if you’re into something differ- ent and kind of trippy, it might be right up your alley. In terms of sound quality | thought it was quite good, very clean and clear all throughout. There are a couple of tracks that | really like, “Dreadlock a platform for improvisa- tion. The compilation fea- tures a_ variety of Canadian artists, all of whom are spectacular musicians, and is classi- fied as a jazz album. And thats exactly what it is. | myself am quite partial to this type of music, and am thoroughly impressed by the caliber of the album! | really dig the feel of this album, to me very similar to know as the jigga man’s trademark. Actually this is my first experience with any of his albums! Normally | don’t follow hip hop, but | must say however, | did enjoy listening to the album! From the intro, the album comes on strong, and follows through with super tight beats and tough Holiday” by 10cc is kind of cool, and so is “Sensual Woman” by Herbalizer(with a name like that it’s got to be), while some of the rest are just down right weird! Listening to the album is almost show in itself, very dramatic with lot’s of changes, | didn’t know what to expect in many places to that of what you’d hear from say Miles Davis. This may in fact be related to it's pop music origins, the type of music these guys grew up with. Compared with some typical jazz stan- dards. This music is somewhat lighter and more melodic. It's definitely easy to identify it’s roots but not so obvious that it takes away lyrics about the harsh realities of life on the streets.| found the whole album easy to listen to, but | have to admit my favorite track on this album is his latest hit “Il Just Wanna Love U. It’s even starting to grow on me a little. In terms of my experience with hip hop lI’d have to say that overall the next. All in all | thought it was good- good for a few laughs. If don’t know, if your interested, try it! from the music, as is the case(at least in my opin- ion) with so many other “jazzed up” pop songs . With a tight rhythm sec- tion, mesmerizing bass and stellar horns and gui- tar, this is definitely a good album if you're jazz buff, and better still if your already a_e fan of Cockburn’s to begin with. Try it out either way, you can't lose! album’s alright, definetly pimpin’, but | could take it or leave it, it’s not really my bag, but hey that’s just me! So there it is, Jay-z and his Dynasty Roc La Familia. SoundScape welcomes your opinions and contributions.
