y iD -.No there is not a Cassiar branch of the Mickey Mouse Club - those extra ears seen on the hard hats are the new style of ear muffs used for noise suppression. - With the renovation of the mine lunch- room, one fellow coisldn't understand why bunks weren't being installed. - After 4 years of faithful service, Albert has finally retired his overalls. - We haven't seen the mine foxes much lately - maybe they'll be out more in the spring when they get a little hungry. A number of pieces of new mine equip- ment have been ordered and we will be seeing them in the near future. The new Champion Grader arrived December 10. A new TD-25 International Dozer is now in Whitehorse and should be in town soon. Six 75 ton Wabco Haulpak Trucks are scheduled to arrive here sometime in February, as well as a new 1900 P GH Shovel. The Shovel will come in dis- assembled and will be built up on the peak by P §& H employees. The Rock Reject plant is presently being fitted with six T.V. cameras and monitors with a central control room. Gerry Charette, his wife Pat and family arrived in Cassiar. from Williams Lake in early December. Gerry is a new mine Foreman and will join the other new fore- men here, Ray Elhorn, Cesar Isidoro and John Forbes. Early in January, two other new Foremen will be in Cassiar; Bill Jones and family from Elkford, B.C. and John Willox and family from Shiefferville, P.Q. On a Saturday sometime in January, the mine department hopes to host a tour for all people interested in se¢ing the mine. Some pieces of equipment will be set up especially for the tour to give everyone an idea of the mining operation. After the tour, coffee and doughnuts will be available in the newly renovated mine lunchroom. Notices will be sent out regarding the time of the tour, and who to contact. A program has been initiated by the Mine and Equipment Garage Departments to recondition the existing mine equipment. The Bucyrus-Erie 71B Shovel was the firs- product of the prograin. This shovel was completely overhauled and repainted inside and out. The Northvest 80-D Shovel and 478 Hough 400 Front-end Loader are now being reconditioned. 1974 HOLDS GREAT HOPES FOR THE FUTURE OF CASSIAR ASBESTOS Here is the latest Company. news to keep you all up to date on the events that are taking place and coming up in the near future. The Pit is the process of being electri- fied and this will change the 40 R drills from diesel to electric. Cassiar is also purchasing a new 45 Rotary drill a slightly larger, more up to date machine. These 3 drills should have no trouble breaking the required amount of ore and waste. The purchase of a new 11 yard electric shovel along with 6 - 75 yard trucks for the waste production will insure adequate waste removal to expose the required ore. A new tram line with 3 to 4 times the capacity of the old one along with the proper loading and unloading bins will be built this year as soon as possible and should take care of the bottleneck between the mine and mill. With the large capacity of the tram line a new concentrate plant will be built at the mill site and this will make better use of the ore by extracting a larger percen- tage of the asbestos fibre before it is discarded on the tailings pile. With all the new equipment in 1974, production at the mine and mill will reach new heights.
