overtheedge 21 Feb, 1996 Arts and Enterte ——e—— C. by Stephanie Willett People Playing Music Hit the Internet People Playing Music, Nudge, and Anita Genevieve Wed, Feb. 14, 1996 at the Internet Cafe. - Presented by the UNBC Radio Society and ~ Rocketfish Productions The night began with the voice and guitar of Anita Genevieve. The guys of Nudge, Giles Theriault (drums), Ilya Medlicott (bass) and Mike Callewaert Left: "Time to have some fun" Anita Genevieve and Kim _ Citton enjoying the rest of the night. Anita was one of the opening acts for People Playing Music at the internet : cafe on Valentines day. (guitar/vocals) were the spe- cial guests who were on be- fore the headliners People Playing Music. People Play- ing Music, originating out of Vancouver, include Jamie Kaufman (drums/vocals), Panos Grames (vocals, keys, guitar), Dave Sikula (guitar vox), Martin Blackwell (bass), Jesse Tellez (tenor sax) and Cory “Show Boat” Weeds (alto sax). People Playing Music were playing without Apple Jensen (vo- cals) because her plane from Vancouver was fogged in (sounds typical for Prince George, weather gets us ev- ery time, eh?) I enjoyed the evening. It seemed as though most of the people who came did. One member of the audience is quoted as saying “It was ‘s0000 wicked! WICKED!!! The lights were shaking due to the dancing audience. Unfortunately the turn out was less than desirable, but the timing was bad. Hope- fully if People Playing Mu- sic come back again it will not be during midterms(or finals)!. At times it was hard hear the lyrics, and the stage set-up was a little squooshed(it was difficult to see some of the musicians), but this did not damper the evening at all. People Playing Music are, as Panos described, “yel- low”. It is difficult to really give them a certain sound. They played a mixture of funk and acid jazz, with other music stylings added here and there as well. At timese they could be described as having a sound similar to UB40, at other times they could be compared to the Dave Matthew’s Band. More than likely, most of. you heard what they sounded like if you were in the Win- ter Garden at all this week(good stuff eh?). People Playing Music are now off to do a six show, five day tour, and then on Febru- ary 27 they. are off to Italy. Nudge and Anita Genevieve were also very good, as stated by Goth Girl “Nudge was fucking awe- some”. There was a very in- teresting mix of music stylings between the three acts, which made for a ex- ceptional Valentines night. Photo T.
