Page Seventy-two headquarters are located at Victoria under the direction of Inspector Robert Owens. Each district is commanded by a sergeant. There are four detachments in Victoria Dis- trict, namely, Victoria, Ganges, Sidney and Port Renfrew. In Nanaimo District there are detachments at Nanaimo, Ladysmith and Qualicum. The West Coast District includes detachments at Port Alberni, Alberni, and Zeballos — the latter being recently created by the great influx of miners to the SERGEANT RICHARD DUNN In Charge Duncan Police District SERGT. DUNN was born at Lichfield, Stafford- shire, England, December 14, 1886. At the age of 18 he joined the Royal Horse Artillery and for the next seven years served in India. He was transferred to the Reserve in October, 1912, and decided to come to Canada. He joined the Northwest Mounted Police in August, 1913, serving until September, 1914, when he rejoined the Royal Horse Artillery. During the War he served with the R.H.A. in France and India. Demobilized in November, 1919, he returned to Canada and joined the Revelstoke Police Depart- ment in 1922. Two years later he was made Chief of Police. He guided the affairs of Revel- stoke’s Police Department for the next eight years, and when the city policing was taken over by the Provincial Police in 1932, “Dick” Dunn was absorbed and moved to Arrowhead. Later he was transferred to the Mounted Troop, and in 1934 he was on detachment at Coquitlam. The next year he was placed in charge of Burn- aby District with the rank of Corporal. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1937, and in July, 1938, was transferred to Duncan, his present station. Vancouver Island West Coast. Four detach- ments comprise the Duncan District. They are located at Duncan, Chemainus, Shaw- nigan Lake and Cowichan Lake. In the Courtenay District there are detachments at Courtenay, Cumberland, Campbell River, Alert Bay and Port Alice. In addition to these are the boats, P.M.L. 14, the largest of the force’s marine fleet, stationed at Victoria and patrolling the West Coast of Vancouver Island; P.M.L. 6, stationed at Ganges and patrolling the Gulf Islands; the P.M.L. 10, stationed at Quat- sino Sound; the Morci at Campbell River and the P.G.D. 1, a joint police and Game Department craft stationed at Alert Bay. The principal cities and towns of “A” Division are: Victoria, Nanaimo, Duncan, Ladysmith, Courtenay, Port Alberni and Alberni.
