UNBC: THE by Laura Martin It is already well into October and the students and faculty have settled into a University schedule. The University was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth on August 17th, 1994, followed by an evening of entertainment and fireworks. Students began registering for classes on September Ist, and, on September 8th, classes had begun. The semester started off rapidly and students found themselves getting involved in many clubs and activities while trying to juggle full course loads at the same time. Students and faculty had to tolerate the inconvenience of the large lines at registration, the noise of construction, the incomplete buidings, and fire alarms ringing, but by now most have gotten used to the problems that follow the opening of a new institution. A number of orientation activities took place for both students and faculty. A large number of people took advantage of the President's barbecue as an opportunity to become acquainted with others and the school. The first day of classes dawned bright and early for many who attended the free pancake breakfast. A humber of local radio Stalions were present as well. The second evening after classes had commenced played host to a concert that was attended by students as well as the public. Many ambitious students have taken it upon themselves to organize clubs and meetings for students and - staff. A - student association, radio station, art club, badminton club, newspaper, and numerous others have already met and discussed goals for the year. As mid-terms _fast approach, and students hit the books harder than ever, it is evident that UNBC, Canada's newest university is definately going to be the future.
