HAE REVIEW . micreplayy | WHERE THE GAMES BEGIN. | Anime Review - Space pirates with boo- bies and guns: By: Kathleen De Vere Sol Bianca: Sol Bianca is an older movie, released in 1990 and it carries the dis- tinction of being one of the first ‘tough chicks in super armor’ type of anime movies. It's about a bunch of all female pirates and their ship, the Sol Bianca which is incredibly powerful, and comes armed with all sorts of goodies like super destructive weapons, the ability to jump in and out of ‘hyper- space’ and some nifty laser cutter whips that shoot out from the sides. How pirates got this I'll never know. The plot is pretty simple, good natured all female pirates who can kick some serious male booty, get more than they — bargained for when their latest raid reveals a stowaway in one of the stolen storage containers they take on board. The stowaway turns out to be the son of a rebel fighter, determined to topple the corrupt military dictatorship of his home planet Uno. The pirates decide to help the boy, despite the risks when they hear that there are copious amounts of money to be gained by helping the boy, and helping them- selves to the extensive treasury of the dictatorship. There: are the usual story developments, a capture, an escape, a change of heart from the cold natured pirate captain, and of course lots of stuff being blow up. The characters are interesting, but sort of one-dimension- al, never showing much of an emotion- al range, and being slightly stereotypi- cal in their nature. The story is pretty good too, but there isn’t much explana- tion of past events, “how did these peo- ple get the Sol Bianca?” was one of my questions, considering it’s powerful enough to blow up an entire fleet of enemy ships. But what do you expect from a one hour long one-shot? All criticisms aside though, this is an enjoyable movie for two reasons: first, bodacious babes in form fitting armor kicking ass, making even the most rad- ical feminists proud, and second, good animation, with some very well done scenes of mass destruction. (Which makes ME proud!) Overall, Sol Bianca gets 3 happy Viking conquerors out of 5. WE Look LIKE WE BELONG TO THE LOYAL oROER OF by Lorenzo Sia Due to unforseen circumstances, our 12 hours wil be published in the next issue. I’ve been hit hard by a case of Computer Science and Mathematics related mid-terms and projects this week. But not to worry I'll be back next issue, continuing on from Williams Lake, going due south on the Cariboo Highway on the lone and long trip to Vancouver, staring with Rob Beicher returning to his seat after a bout of indigestion and a trip to the back of the coach to drop some “napalm”.
