HOWLS FROM THE HILL This winter will probably go on record as one of the windiest up on the hill. The wind started blowing hard just before Christmas and didn't stop until after the New Year. For the last week or so, the weather has been mild and somewhat settled, so hopefully we'll be able to continue on to full production without too much weather interference. The Mine Curling Team has recaptured the "A" Event in the Interdepartmental Bonspiel. Danny Demitri - Skip, Ray Erickson - Third, John Forbes - Second and Peter Voss - Lead were the star players. The other mine team skipped by Brian Pewsey, Rick Forbes. - Third, Paul Clark - Second and Danny Lagarusic - Lead were knocked out by the Demitri Rink. Brian Pewsey and Ray Erickson, the two newest members to the Mine Dept. both proved to be capable curlers. : Overheard by a member of the Mill Staff after they were beaten by a Mine Team, "You guys are always looking down on us." While we are enduring the throws of winter in Cassiar, Cesar and Mary-Ann Isidoro will be enjoying their free three week trip in sunny Aculpolco. Mary-Ann had the lucky ticket in the Arena Association Draw last December. The Mine is anxiously anticipating the arrival of a new D-8 Cat. This tractor will be equipped with a newly designed D-9 blade and C-frame. The tractor should arrive in Cassiar in late January. The Mine Hough 100 front end loader has had the bucket removed and was fitted with a blade. This "wheeled dozer'' has been very successful in snow removal , road cleaning and shovel cleanup. The reason being, the Mock Up Sheets were Lost in transit from Cassiar to Whitehorse but after investigation, they were found in a White Pass truck.which had gone to the garage for Service New Years Eye. The Whitehorse Star printed the paper just as soon as they received it and returned the paper to us.
