UNBC Fencing Club is one of the oldest student-run clubs in UNBC and the only fencing club in Prince George. About eight years ago, UNBCFC hosted the Northern British Columbia Fencing Tournament, and that year were honored to invite Mr. Victor Gantsevich to come to our university. Mr. Gantsevich is the coach for Canada’s Senior Men’s Epee team; leading the team to a bronze medal at the World Cup a few Years ago. He has produced world, national and provincial champions. After rebuilding a strong executive team last year, the squad BC FKencing Association: UNC Life UNBC Cup /D, . a wikipedia.org aimed to bring the club back to its golden age. They hosted a BC fencing tournament, the UNBC Cup last Saturday in the NUSC Event Space. The purpose of this tournament is to gather fencers from all over BC, to spend a day in our beautiful campus: “to compete, communicate and to learn from each other”. The tournament was a great success. UNBC Fencing Club offers tons of volunteer opportunities, such as volunteering in Duchess Park Secondary School, dealing with equipment rentals to other schools and clubs, and teaching UNBC literature and history classes about fencing. The club also collaborates with other clubs and schools for performances and shows. Fencing is a sport, art and a family that we will take with us for the rest of our lives. From the gladiators of ancient Rome to the athletes of the modern Olympics, fencers have continued the proud traditions of swordplay over the ages.
