) =e = AYE = ‘on H _ We in Cassiar were very fortunate to have our District Governor Vern Hilliard visit us over the weekenc of February 13th. To make the visit more enjoyable he brought along Past Governor Bill Johnson from Anchorage and Lion Jack McFarland membership Chairman from Heally Valley, Alaska. The Lions Zone Meeting chaired by our Cassiar Lion Alf Guderjahn got underway at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon with 30 Lions attending including the President and Secretary of Watson Lake . The main emphasis of the meeting was on membership; if you can find people with the desire to serve they should make good Lions. Cassiar Lions have built up a real good reputation not only in Cassiar but throughout the whole District 49. They are noted as the leader in accomplishments and although they may have little ups & downs they still perform a lot of projects for the betterment of this community. Watson Lake Lions have also made a good name for themselves, particularly over the past 3 years and at present are going great guns with the ambition of bidding for the next winter conference to be held next November. It was also emphasised that all Lions should attend the Lions Convention to be held in Whitehose next May 6 - 9th. The Lions Bonspiel started at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning with 12 teams of Lions and their ladies partici- pating in a series of 4 end games. The curling was stopped for a few hours in the evening while 70 Lions, Ladies & Guests attended a marvelous dinner prepared and served by the Cafeteria. Master of Ceremonies Lion Ed Michael performed even better than usual to make it very enjoyable. To add to the entertainment Frank McLean showed some of his movies. Governor Vern Hilliard spoke words of inspiration to the Cassiar and Watson Lake Lions. Past Governor Bill Johnson, also made a few remarks about the Lions International Convention to be held in Hawaii in late June 1976. Governor Vern was also very pleased to be able to indoctrinate four new members into the Cassiar Lions Club. The new Lions with their motto, "WE SERVE" are: Lorne Armstrong, Graham Friberg, Werner Kleimann and John Inch. President Ed Hanley then made a presentation to Lions Reg Ash for his work over the past year of col- lecting empty beer bottles, one of the most lucrative projects for the Lions activities fund. . President Ed also presented Lion Rupert McKenzie a plaque for his devotion over the past 7 years aS promotor and manager of the Cassiar Lions Swimming Pool. The next part of the program was a Chinese Auction to raise funds for the widow and 4 children of the late President of Hains Junction Lions Club. Mrs. Eileen Boyle will receive the $181.00 which was raised on the Auction.
