Culture Game Over By Brad Prangnell Goldeneye is still the best James Bond game ever, although this one is fairly respectable and possibly the best Bond game for the PC. The game is played out over 9 levels, taking the player through an assort- ment of exotic locales. In general, the levels are well laid out, with objects placed realistically in the environments, although sometimes the levels are very linear and objectives can be ambiguous. Graphically, the game looks very good, with well- rendered objects and people. Bullet holes are left in walls after a fire-fight, many objects such as comput- Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets is obviously based on the movie of the same name, which is itself based on the book also of the same name. As such, the game follows the movie fairly closely, while taking some creative license in the interest of game play. I’ve never seen any of the movies or read any of the books, so I can really only assume that the characters and the environments in the game are similar in appearance and sound to the movie. The plot is moved along through the use of cut scenes, which are well-rendered. Graphically, this game looks good. Harry’s cape billows realistically when he’s running around, and 007 Nightfire er monitors can be wantonly destroyed, and 007 actu- ally looks very much like Pierce Brosnan. Unfortunately, 007 doesn’t sound quite like Pierce Brosnan, although the voice is a reasonable facsimile. The other sounds in the game, such as gunfire and windows shattering, sound properly realistic. While the bad guys are well-rendered, they are none too bright, but anonymous henchman aren’t supposed to be, are they? The plot is moved along by occasional cut scenes, which have a proper cinematic feel, although they seem kind of blurry. Sometimes, Nightfire is prone to giving the player far too much information. The manual lists and describes all the missions, and the hints in the game are often far too informative. Overall, Nightfire is a respectable first-person shooter, although it is in some way flawed. I give it 8.5 out of 10. Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets Hogwarts’ has a natural and authentic appearance. The spell effects are also well done. The game also sounds good. The background music is nicely low-key, becoming more apparent when Harry is in a dangerous environment. The voic- es are also well done, although the voice over some- times skips during the cut scenes. Much of the game play consists of challenge cours- es after Harry has learned a new spell. The difficulty of the game is obviously designed for a younger casu- al gamer audience, so the challenges are fairly easy for a more experienced gamer. Overall, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets is a solid action-adventure game, which comes well-rec- ommended for children and r more casual gamers. I give it 8 out of 10.
