And of course the women’s team is starting up as well. I got a chance to sit down with coach Loralyn Murdoch of Se e3 DANA BELLIS STAFF WRITER ‘ The UNBC Womens Rugby Club is about to start its eleventh season. The club was founded in 1995, shortly after the opening of the university. Ten active alumni continue to keep women's rugby a part of the UNBC student cul- ture. Currently the squad consists of 25 members in the Prince George area, including students from UNBC, CNC, and local residents. This season kicks off with a big bang! The second annual UNBC North- ern Invitational Rugby Tournament will be held at Masich Place Stadium from September 29 to October 1. Sgt. O'Flaherty’s will host the opening social event on Friday and there will be a wind down event for: Saturday night. Come out and support your the men’s and women's rugby clubs on the field and at Sgt. O'Flaherty's. Is your stomach talking louder than the professor? Then keep an eye out for one of the rugby clubs fundraising bake sales. In addition to satisfying your huriger, pay attention to our pub nights, the UNBC Womens basketball Team. Though she wasnt with us last year, I was able to ask her a few questions about the Timberwolves previous season. I asked her, “What was something that really didn’t help the team last year, that you're working on this year?” She told me that last year the girls were still quite a young team and had lacked a lot of experience that is key on the court. She made sure to add that these girls are a hard-working bunch, and just a great group of ladies. Laurel Wallace, Carlye Hicks, and Jaclyn Nazareno are some of the 3rd years hotshots we'll be looking for this year. So as our ladies are looking good for the upcoming season, I asked her, “What can we, the students,.do that could help the team?” She said she re- membered a few years back when there tid € 3 MITCH GRANT prize raffles, and 50-50 draws that will be held to support the rugby clubs. Last, but not least, is our Annual Halloween Dance that promises to be as exciting and eventful as last year's. Keep watch for ticket sales and venue locations in the upcoming weeks, because tickets al- ways sell out early! While all of you are feasting on your " sumptuous Thanksgiving dinner, think of the UNBC rugby teams while they battle it out at the renowned Gobbler tournament in Abbotsford. This tour- nament is a highlight of the men’s and would be mobs of students with drums and painted faces going nuts, cheering on our Timberwolves. Now they don't see that kind of sup- port at games anymore, which is very disrespectful of us, as students. These girls are working hard to give our school a great reputation, the least we can do is - support them by going mental at their games! ~ Remember tickets are sold at the UNBC fitness center and games are at ‘The College of New Caledonia until the Sports Center is completed. ~ The Timberwolves will start their sea- son with a two-game exhibition tourna- ment against Grand Prairie on the 29th and 30th of this month. They'll follow that exhibition up with a tournament at Capilano College on October 3 and 4. Finally, they'll finish up the exhibition season with a game against TRU in Va- lemount. “So whats the roster looking like?” one might ask. Here it is, ladies and gentle- men. Jaclyn Nazareno, Ashley Neufield, Nicole Smolik, Brittany Bidlake, Soili Smith, Ashley McLellen, Laurel Wal- lace, Laura Gaspard, Carlye Hicks, “Theresa Smith, Brianna Doerkson, and Nicole Chappell. Be sure to catch their first league games against Columbia starting with a game at 6:30pm on November 3rd, and again at 6:00pm on the 4th. Our basketball teams are looking real good this year, and they have some great coaches, all they need is our support at the games and I know we will have an awesome season. GO TIMBERWOLVES!!
