TWO battered old wrecks of humanity
were sitting together on a bench in the city

A CANADIAN soldier tendered a penny
to a London bus conductor, was given a
punched ticket, but complained, “Your bell
didn’t ring.”

“What do you expect for a penny?” said
the conductor. A brass band?”

INHABITANT of a Norwegian fishing
village—so a current war story goes—wit-
nessed the forced landing of an aeroplane
offshore. A fisherman set out to rescue the
crew, but soon returned without them.
“They were Germans,” he explained.

“But weren't they alive?” someone in the
crowd asked.

“Well, one of them said he was, but you
know how these Nazis lie!”

IT was a fine old bishop who, years ago,

THE Swiss humorous weekly, ‘“Nebels-
palter,” has a good story which relates that
Wallenstein, Prince Eugene, Nelson, Na-

Elysian fields. Starting to talk “shop,” they
became engaged in a heated discussion about
the war and its chances.

Apparently Napoleon could not get his
views accepted by the rest. “Gentlemen!”
he suddenly exclaimed. “If I had had a
Minister of Propaganda, I shouldn't know
even to this day that I had lost the Battle
of Waterloo.”

A REPORT from Norway says that now-
adays tramcars are packed to capacity. The
conductors, when they have to order pass-
engers to move to the back of the tram show
a pretty sense of humour. Instead of say-
ing, “Step back in the car,” they now say
“Please retire according to plan.”
