Consequently, any estimate of stratigraphic thickness has little meaning in these areas, and, owing to the lenticular nature of some of the deformed beds, the stratigraphic sequence in any single measured section is only representative for a very limited area. In the following sections, the stratigraphic thicknesses listed are those observed in the field without special regard as to whether any particular bed was measured at a place where it was thinned on the limb of a fold or thickened by drag-folding. They are presented merely to show the relative abundance of the various rock types, and the thickness given may differ considerably from the average thickness of the beds to which they refer. I.
