Soon snow will bring a respite from the incessant mud underfoot but this will also be attended with new hazards. The first that sugsests itself is also the commonest. Tt is the hazard of slip- ping and falling. This one has already produced two recent injuries, and more will sure- ly foliow unlesSs we are fully sware of the dunger. Falls mrely happen from a condition that is obvious, or in other words, one that advertises its own hazard. They happen in the everyday courses of events when con- ditions are worsened, just a little. ye cannot control fully these con- ditions. ‘Ye can and do alleviate them in various ways. The rest of the control we must supply ourselves through appiied common sense. Here are some things of which we should remind ourselves: L.cliimb down off machinery eatin the | fhand hold. po not fump down, the least that may be expected is a bad- iiy sprained ankle. z£.Pe Sure of your footing and be sure your feet are properly shod. 3.Keep machines as free as possible from grease and oil. A wet boot on greasy metal is sure to produce a fall, sooner or later. 4, .Re always careful of housekeeping in shops, work places and especially shovels. Good housekeeping provides the criteria by ie others judge our work. 5.Do not attempt to get on or off moving equipment or vehicles. 6.Do not leave materials of any kind on stairways. 7.Keep steps free of snow and ice. 8.Last, but by no means least, do not run up or down stairways. . These points are a few reminders of everyday circumstances. More will arise on the job from day to day. Be! aware of them, avoid them and report unsafe conditions which can be cor- rected. Let's keep injuries from falls at a minimun. Cc. Church, Safety Engineer.
