Photos: The members of the Killjoys defied i the nature of their name, putting on an killer performance for all in attendance (Above and left) - Two members of the Bloody Chicletts, Glen Reid (Right) and Gabe Tracey (Left), get warm and interactive with our reporter during their interview. The concert was well | attended and went on with little difficulty. (Photos by Jason Neault) Glen-singer Chad-guitar Devin-keyborder Gabriel-drummer I had never even heard of “the Bloody Chicletts”, until a couple days ago, when I saw them on Much Music, and the song , “She’s a freak”, their first single was on. It was awesome. Their show rocked! There wasn’t all that many people there, and hardly anyone danced though, quite a few of their songs were quite danceable. Their music was quite diverse, spanning fom grunge- “hate everything”, to melodic ballads. I don’t know what all the songs were called because...weli I just found out who they were. One song I just loved though was called “On and on” , was an excellent song-it was one of their really danceable songs, however not many people danced. At one point Glen-the singer-even asked people to come dance, however no one really did. I really felt bad for these guys, because it was their first time here, they’re a relatively young band and they need our support.I think in a couple years they will be a well known band, and I really hope that they will come back. I also hope that if they do come back that they will be better received. To see them, you might be a little bit intimidated because February 3, 1997 -- Over The Edge -- Page 7 they are pretty much in to the whole alternative scene, the body piercings and hair. One of the original band members, Devin has died black hair and makeup, Gabriel the drummer, has nailpolish, they all have body piercing -and tongue or eyebrows;one of them has two on his tongue! However they are really nice, and were quite willing to give out information about themselves. I only wish I had had a taperecorder, because I couldn’t write everything down fast enough! Three of the band members are from Calgary, and since have relocated to Vancouver where they picked up their drummer. However, the drummer that they now have is a relatively new addition, as Kurt Dahle, of “Age of Electric” and “Limblifter”, was the original member. Now Kurt, I am told, “takes care of Devin’s dog!” They have been together for I 1/2 years now. Glen, the lead singer, was ina band that was here 6 years ago- “Petting Zoo”. Chad and Glen are cousins and Devin and Glen went to school together, in Calgary. Glen and Devin met when they ‘were in elementary school and Devin wanted to fight Glen. Glen won, and Devin had a mouthful of “Bloody Chicletts”, hence their name. I asked them who they would love to open for if they could hicletts and they promptly answered “Weezer”, however I thought that they had said, “Weasel”, and was thoroughly cut down, in a humorous way of course! It was funny. When asked where they want to go next they all answered , “Japan, and New York again”. I also asked them what there thoughts were on “ Star Wars”, and they all love it. Then they all went on tangents about when “Star Wars”, first came out-and all the merchandise surrounding it-they were all excited about it. I really wish I had a taperecorder then because I couldn’t write anything down-I just let them go. I had hit on a jackpot of information and didn’t write any of itdown. They were then redeemed in my eyes(after the insult!). They are all looking forward to going home, but still have 2 weeks of touring left with the .“Killjoys”. They are on their way to Grande Prairie. I wish them luck, and hope they will be back sometime soon. I also hope that the people here will be better to them. I will be going out and buying their album-though I’m not entirely sure what it’s called! Any band that has the influence of the “Limblifters” rocks! written by Lennise Mann
