All of the speakers gave great emphasis on uniting women together to work towards the protection of human _ rights. After the final speaker the crowd was lead by Ann McCullough in the chants to be repeated throughout the walk. Extra signs, made by volunteers and left on the court- house steps were picked up an held high as the group mobilized. Moving as a very large automobile down the streets the mass uf people took over one lane. Lead by whomev- er yelled first, the chants were repeated as the marchers moved along. Security did a very good job of mak- ing sure traffic was not a problem for the peo- ple marching and dri- vers were only tem- porarily inconve- nienced. Some passerbys even honked in support. An ambulance was also on hand to help out if needed, and the pace was kept at a rate that was good for everyone. Once at the gallery the group amassed on the front lawn and took advantage of the refreshments _ inside. As each person arrived they were given a can- dle which was later lit. The lit candles exem- plified how much more light can be created within a group than with just a single can- dle, symbolizing how important it is to work together to get results. Inspiring as the idea is, “Women unite, take back the night.” as the chant went, it would be a better world if there never had to be a Seventh annual Take Back the Night March. That would be in a per- fect-world-best-case scenario, but here in reality, the message clearly sent by the march is people need to come together to right human _ injustice and this is a good place to start.
