Introducing to you... Mr. Archie Onisimchuk, our new bank manager. Archie arrived here just in time to be in our Annual Bonspiel, and was promptly snapped up to play for Rupert MacKenzie. Coming here from the Main Branch of The Royal Bank in Burnaby, he saw a great change, what with the snow, the town, and needless to say, the weather. He intends to stay here for about a year, and we hope he'll like it, and enjoy his stay. Archie informs us that a joint checking account is never over- drawn by the wife, it’s just under-deposited by the husband... hence his coveted bachelorhood! ee eH FROM THE LION’S DEN A well earned victory was gained on January 24th, by the Cassiar Lions Club when they accepted a challenge from the Watson Lake Lions to a duel on the ice in the form of curling. The game started at approximately 11:00 a.m. when Skip Lion Rupert MacKenzie and his #1 team with their usual outstanding style and ability gave the Cassiar rinks a good start on this two game total point series event. Then came the dauntless #2 team with very much the same tactics, skipped by Lion Albert Kutsche. They took their first game with a handy margin. Our #3 team kipped by Lion Keith White, did not have the good fortune of the other two rinks but put up a good effort, and still has a good pat on.the back coming. Lion Keith was a very busy man, for he also took good care of the organizing of the games and keeping every- thing running smoothly. The total results of the six games turned out to be Cassiar Lions, 37 ... Watson Lake Lions... 28. Good going, Cassiar Lions. While we are in the mood for handing out bouquets, we cannot forget the others who worked very diligently behind the scenes. Lion Ron Reeve, who was in charge of getting and setting up the food; Lion John Poirier, who was his exquisite and famous self, and prepared a banquet fit for royalty. Then there was our Lion Tamer Lion Lothar Kutz, who set up and attended the refreshment stand with the able hand of Lion Archie Campbell who took over when Lion Lothar was on the ice. There is no doubt many more who are not mentioned in person, and to those Lions we take our hats off. Before we close this short article, we must mention those Lions and their guests who came all the way from Watson Lake and Lower Post. A person would have to travel far and wide to find a more sports-minded group of people. | only wish that | could name them for they are worthy of the highest praise, for they were real Lions... and could they Roar! So much for the Lions Bonspiel. Everybody had a good time, and | am sure all concerned are looking forward to a rematch, when once again we may go into battle to retain the trophy. In passing, may | mention how good it is to see our Lion’s president Art McAndrew back with a big smile and to know that his good wife is O.K., and we hope she will return to us in good health. We would also like to take this opportunity of wishing our good riend and a friend of this community, Lion Archie Campbell, luck ~ and good wishes on his retirement. God Bless you, Lion Archie, Bon Voyage, and come back and visit us some time, you will always be welcome. TOWN TIDBITS The girls at the Ladies’ Staffhouse had a “Coming out Party” for their Christmas turkey, on February 7th, 1970. Every year at Christmas, the company bestows on the girls, a 20-Ib. turkey. This results in a fine dinner to which only a chosen few are invited. This year, however, due to the girls being invited out to dinner on Christmas day, the dinner was postponed til February. Better late than never, eh, guys? Nevertheless, we have been told that on Saturday, seven of the lovely ladies gathered in their cozy kitchen and combined their culinary arts to produce a fantastic supper for their guests. From what is heard from the Staffhouse, if John Louie is ever short staffed in the kitchen — he should call on the girls — all 7 at once of course! This just goes to prove that that old saying is just an old saying: ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth, or turkey.” one &£ ee At the beginning of the month, Cassiar bade farewell to another long-timer, and well-known personality. Archie Campbell, our bank manager, left Cassiar on February 2nd, for Vancouver. After a wee rest, Archie supposedly has great plans for some extensive travelling. Archie worked as bank manager twice before in Cassiar, so this is not his first departure. However, this time, he is retiring, so unfortunately, we may not see him in Cassiar again, unless he chooses to holiday here sometime. Archie naturally had many friends here in Cassiar and on January 24th, many of them gathered together to bid him fare- well, and to wish him the best of luck on his retirement. The farewell party was held in the Party Room upstairs in the Com- munity Club, and was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. J. Poirier. All attending enjoyed a lovely evening, and a beautiful lunch prepared by the Catering Staff, compliments of Cassiar Asbestos Corp. The highlight of the evening was when Mrs. Caron presented Archie with a gift, a lovely ring . . . a token of friendship from his many friends. He opened it to the tune of ‘For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow.” Good-by Archie, and Good Luck. OFFICE GAB To those of you who haven't tripped over those funny looking machines in the halls of the Admin. building, we hope you at least noticed them. Don’t be alarmed, automation isn’t taking over yet. They are merely humidifiers, for the poor people who find it very dry in the office. Smile, and breathe deeply! (Wonder who the lucky water boy is?) +e ee Pat is once again back with us, after an operation in Edmonton. Nice to have you back Pat, and keep smiling, things could be worse! ee & & COMMUNITY CLUB NEWS On January 19, 1970, an extra-ordinary General Meeting was held in the Rec Hall to discuss changes to By-law 2A, Re: ‘Active Members”. The vote was in favor of this by-law being changed and now wives of Cassiar Employees can become Active members by paying $1.00 per month, if they reside in Cassiar. The active member has a few more privileges than the non- member, one of them being a right to vote at the Annual General Meeting, and a right to run for office. Come on Gals, join up and exercise your rights! On January 28th, 1970, the Annual General Meeting of the C.C.C. was held. New officers were elected, and several subjects were discussed.
