36 COMMERCIAL POSSIBILITIES. Apart from the mineral resources, described at length else- where in this report, the natural products of Graham island are timber and fish. The timber should prove of value in the future, and the fisheries, when properly conducted, will also be of value. The whaling industry is being carried on with success by a company with stations at Naden harbour, on Graham island, and at Rose harbour, at the south end of the group. Three steam whaling boats are operated from Naden harbour, and the catch usually consists of sulphur bottoms. Occasionally a sperm whale is captured and in 1914 a specimen of the very rare right whale was taken. This single animal was valued at $20,000.
