WOOD, P.Eng June 28, 1977 Our File: 75021-1 Rivtow Straits Limited, 2215 Commissioner Street, Vancouver, B. C. V5L 1A8 Attention: Mr. R. Johnson Dear Sirs: Re: Portland Canal Marine Development - Stewart, B. C. Following receipt of Klohn Leonoff's report on the geotechnical investigation of the proposed site, we have prepared a new drawing, No. 75021-1-203 A, enclosed, which shows the proposed scheme, and which incorporates all the changes necessitated by Klohn Leonoff's recommendations. We have also prepared the enclosed cost estimated of the scheme shown on the drawing. The estimate was made on the basis of the following considerations: I Sand and gravel fill will be obtained by dredging the barge berthing and adjacent areas, to Elevation -16.0.. Dredging the barge berthing area alone provides only approximately 71,300 c. yds. of the 293,000 c. yds. of fill required. 2. Of material dredged for fill, 81% is sand and gravel suitable for fill, and 19% is silt which is unsuitable and will have to be wasted. o. Fill to Elevation 11.0' can be placed by dumping from barge and fill above this elevation will probably be placed in the dry by trucking from the barge at an additional cost to the dredging costs. AS Silt material may be dumped within a haul of 1 mile. Klohn Leonoff indicate that the site will settle under the weight of the fill by '2 to 3 feet.’ We have therefore prepared an estimate for each of the settlement figures, as noted. Continued..... G.
