Ortoba 10-24, 2007 Aris & Culture W A Room Full of Missing Women | Reseccs Carmicnser, Cory Epiror These paintings are part of Betty Kovacic’s powerful art exhibition “A Room Full of Missing Women”, cur- rently showing at the Two Rivers Art Gallery. This show features 50 por- traits of women missing from Van- couver’s downtown Eastside. Each portrait is skilfully and sensitively ren- dered to give names, faces and voices to losses ignored by most of society. The exhibition also features 50 black shrouded figures throughout the room with the hopes and dreams of local women written on them. UNBC’s VP Academic Deborah Poff developed an audio component to accompany the exhibition, with music composed by Broek Bosma. The overall effect is chilling and overwhelming. This exhibition will be running until November 25, 2007. Anumber of free programs will be held over the next months to explore some of the issues raised by this project.
