December 22002 Over The Edge Page 14 Blue Rodeo Rocks the Multiplex By Erin Baker It was a wild might at the Multiplex. Mullets and cougars were abundant, and there was no shortage of leather outfits. The atmosphere was set, the beer gardens were full and the crowd was in a great mood, ready to see Blue Rodeo for the first time in Prince George. Blue Rodeo’s opening act was The Sadies, and they were amazing. A psychedelic _ blue- grass band out of Toronto, they did a great job getting the crowd worked up for the headliners. They played a jam packed half hour set, com- plete with cello, gui- tars, xylophone, mandolin, drums and bass, giving a Dire Straights/Devil Went Down to Georgia ’ : Photo by Kevin McConnell sound that's very Lead singer Jim Cuddy rocks it out at the agreeable, I’m sure |multipiex we'll be seeing more from them in the near future. After a fifteen minute reset period, Blue Rodeo stepped on stage. Jim Cuddy, in all his glory, started off with a seem- ingly unlimited amount of ener- gy and didn’t fade at all throughout the performance. The Vegetarian Experience Healthy and Easy Vegetarian Recipes Christmas is the time of coloured sprinkle cookies. Some things really signify Christmas. Trees, Christmas lights, irate shoppers, but most of all-fragrant baking. There are many fond memo- ries of mom's (or dad’s) kitchen, filled with Christmas goodies. An all time favourite are sugar cookies. There are easy to make, and fun to dec- orate. This recipe can be made days in advance, and if the dough isn’t rapidly con- sumed (| recommend hiding it in the veggie drawer) a small batch can be baked whenever necessary. If, in the true fash- ion of a student, you possess neither rolling pin nor cookie cutters, nor electric mixer, don't despair. The recipe can be mixed by hand, though it may take a bit longer. A cylin- drical cup, rolled in flour, can be used as a rolling pin, and an inverted glass can be a cookie cutter. Christmas Sugar Cookies Sift 1 1/2-2 c flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking pow- der 1/2 tsp. salt In another bowl: Cream 1/2 butter (or mar- garine) and 1 cup sugar Beat in 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. milk Add flour to creamed mix- ture until dough is stiff. Refrigerate overnight. Roll dough to 1 cm thick- ness and cut as desired. Can decorate with coloured sprin- kles. Cook on ungreased cookie sheet @ 350F for 8-10 min. They played a great mix of their new music from the album “Palace of Gold” and their fan favorites. The stage was full of musical masters, from a small brass section to the guitar talents of Cuddy, Keelor, Donovan and Gray. The slow tempo songs inspired the swaying of lighters in the crowd, and the faster ones, dancing in the seats. The two and a half-hour set flew by, and the band didn’t stop until the encore, when Cuddy returned in a Prince George Cougars jersey. The crowd went wild, more so when he made a few jokes about the Cougar’s less than stellar season. The encore lasted three songs and ended the show with “Lost Together’, my personal Blue Rodeo favorite. In the end, my first Prince George concert experience didn’t disappoint. The fans were wild; the band was great and the music memorable. In short. Blue Rodeo rocked.
