O’Flaherty's. Summer Jams 1. Crazy- Gnarls Barkley. It was the first single to ever hit number one on downloads alone. In England, it tied Queen's “Bohemian Rhapsody” for the longest stay at the top of charts, and probably would have topped that classic if the duo hadnt retired it. It sounds like Marvin Gaye stuck in Super Mario Bros. And it’s the song of the summer. 2.Steady As She Goes- the Racon- teurs. Sure, it sounds like “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” but nowhere else did Jack White's rock and Brendan Benson's pop sensibilities blend so well. 3. Promiscuous Girl- Nelly Furtado f. Timbaland. Just call it“I Got A Man 2006” and give credit to Positive K. 4. Supermassive Blackhole- Muse. They've sounded like Radiohead. ‘They've sounded like Queen. Now they sound like the best rock-dance bend you've ever heard. 5. Aint No Other Man- Christina Aguilera. In which Miss Dirrty cleans up her act and almost matches the jazz greats of the past. 6. Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)- Cobra Starship. Even if you never heard the song, you heard the hype around the movie that inspired it. And if you didn't hear about that, I hope you enjoyed your time on the moon. 7. Deja Vu- Beyoncé f. Jay-Z. No- where near as good as “Crazy in Love,’ but they're still the ultimate power couple. 8. SOS- Rhianna. From “Smells Like Booty” to the Grey Album, it was just a matter of time before someone released a song that sounded like a mash-up before those dirty online DJ's got their hands on it. 9. Stars Are Blind- Paris Hilton. You know how pop music is full of songs you love to hate? This is the song you hate to love. 10. Dani California- the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Less for the song (which rips off Tom Petty) than the video, which has the Peppers reliving the last fifty years of music in style. 5 Cool Things 1. Is it basketball, the Blackberry, in- stant mashed potatoes, or the push-up bra? Vote for your favourite Canadian invention at www.cbc.ca/inventionsand check out the results on January 5. 3. http://tv.truenuff.com/mac. 4. The Raconteurs, “Crazy.’ It seems Sure, those ads with the guy from like everyone's covered Gnarls Barkley “Dodgeball” are funny, but it’s nice to see __ lately, but the best version so far is this those uppity Mac users get put in their live one from Jack White and friends. 2. Sure, it's been around for a while, but just in case you missed it find OK Go's video for “Here It Goes Again” on the YouTube-style site of your choice. Who says rock bands can't dance? place. 5, “Are you pondering what I’m pon- dering?” “T think so, Brain, but if Jimmy cracked corn, and no one cares, why does he keep doing it?” Relive this and many other classic lines with Pinky and the Brain: Volume 1 right now, or wait for the combo Vol. 1 so 2 coming this December.
