rd mae Editor, I am responding to the article, "Woman or Rex", as it is full of uninformed opinions. I do not question the freedom to have these opinions, I only question the writer's arguments. The writer implies that the "Woman's Centre", has received some special treatment by having a room. The. writer failed mention, that some woman through the Quickstart program, had applied to the school long ago, to receive the space. As well, the article implies the the Centre has unlimited power, and violently attacks other groups in the school. Were is the evidence of this? I have only heard of the woman voicing opinions, not delegating rules! Furthermore, every student organization such as "The Edge" or "The Student Society", tries to influence ‘the school as a whole. Each ‘tries to achieve a goal, by informing the student body. Man After Woman’s Heart I have —_ developed opinions of the "Woman's Centre" from talking to woman involved with the Centre, reading the posters on the Centre's walls, and hearing of the Centre's activities. I have never once come across, "Male Bashing". I have only heard support for woman, and a steadfast belief in the incredible abilities _ that woman have. It is about time woman can freely voice their opinions, without having their characters called into question. Finally, I must say that all opinions should be debated logically. We must keep an open mind to other's opinions when formulating our own; and we must understand other's opinions, before condemnind, or embracing them. We must be informed. FOR AN APPOINTMENT PHONE 563-2118 Editor, Tony Lort, the author of the last article asked if Willet, the previous author, was on hemp. I question the sobriety of Lort, who seems to have bought wholesale the propaganda disseminated -by the US government in the 1950s. While everyone is entitled to an opinion, it should at least be an informed one based on facts. Fact: there are 104 carcinogens added to each cigarette. Fact: there were over 40000 smoking related deaths in: Canada last year. There were none attributed to marijuana use. Fact: 82% of smokers will get cancer and 79% of these will spend the last ten years of their life in a. hospital on intensive care. Fact: there have been no qualitative studies done on the physical effects of marijuana, with the possible exception of the studies commissioned by the US government in the 1950s. What of the effects on society? Granted, anyone with a drug problem will not necessarily be a good citizen, but why compound the problem? Criminalization creates a problem by making drug users subvert the mainstream society to obtain their fix. Billions of dollars are wasted each year on law enforcement, court costs and incarceration costs, as well as education and rehabilitation. Do some _ research, Tony Lort, and you will find there is much to be gained from the responsible handling of all drugs, not just a select few that the government deems to be safe. Tony Lort % Grover Rules! Dear Editor, Barney is a big purple dino, he’s harmless. His smile takes up half of his triangular head -did he order too many free smiles from MickeyDee’s or what? The target of discussion should be whiny and green Baby Bop. I wanna smother Baby Bop with her blanket. Are the writers trying to draw connections to a _ Seca “first year student? All Baby Bop does is sleep, whine, and say “What did I miss?” Not much if she was in Core 103! Think of what I am comparing Baby Bop to -like she’s as cool as a doozer from Fraggle Rock. Yah right - the doozers. did something, they had a positive impact on Fraggle society. If this is placed in dinosaur society the only impact Baby Bop would have is in Barney’s digestive system. This is not to say that Barney rules because we know that this coveted honour applies to Grover! No one near or far can touch Grover! Basically kids t.v. today ‘sucks with exception to Tommy -the coolest Power Ranger. Now there’s a topic! Okay what I’m saying is that Barney is purple, purple is better than a whining Ist year student, but not as monumental as Grover. % Nadine Gray OVER THE EDGE Charles Hogg News Editor D'Arcy Davis Sports Editor Damien Joly Arts Editor Manpreet.Sidhu Copy Editor Tracy Gula Production Editor Hans Rosenlehner Advertising Contributors Selam Al-azar Aaron Cumming Angie Dale Brad Ellis © Karin Fennell Melissa Fegarido Angelique Goffinet Joseph Hegel Tan King Tan Lorenz Robert Luke Laura Martin Kellaine McKendrick .
