For example, ask yourself the following questions: (NOTE * - Why don’t you grab a pen and answer these questions, you will be surprised on how much work it is to think about yourself and what it is you actually enjoy doing!) 1. What are my general interests? 2. What kinds of activities do | enjoy the most? 3. What do | consider to be my most significant accomplishments so far? 4. Can you find a common thread running through your answers so far? i.e., do you see any skills naturally clustering together? 5. Do you prefer working alone or with others? 6. Do you prefer working indoors, outdoors, or both? 7. Do you like having responsibility or prefer for someone else to be in charge? 8. What job features are most important to you? E.g.: hours, salary, closeness to home, opportunity to travel, learning something new, independence on the job, social status, approval of others on the job? 9. Make a list of the things you do not want in your work situation and lists its opposite. What do | mean? For example, say, “I do _ not like ‘to work alone” could be translated to a positive “| like to work with other people.” 10. List as many different occupations that have interested you, and think about what it is that you liked about them. statement saying Once you have completed this questionnaire, go back and study your answers. You will see patterns developing, for example, you may really like working with and helping people, like flexible hours, and want the opportunity to travel. Or, you may like to work outdoors, prefer to work alone, and enjoy a physically challenging job. Hmmm, you may have communication skills, interpersonal skills, computer skills, analytical, teaching, etc. Do you see my point? There are no right or wrong answers here, the point of this little exercise is to get you thinking about the kinds of things you like doing, and the kinds of skills you have to accompany your likes. This will help point you to the kinds of jobs you would like doing. Stay tuned for next time as we will take your preferences and match them to ... Well, it's a surprise!
