MINE RESCUE . A ais aaateet nacmaanaaael Casstar's Mine Rescue Team. L. to R. H. Hawkins, L. Fregonese, G. Smth, C. Gander Jr., A. Kutsche, Capt., F. Venzie, V-Cant., T. Lobbes. A team of Cassiar employees travelled to Brenda Mines, in the sunnier, warmer part of Southern British Columbia, to participate in a Mine Rescue demonstration on October 2nd, 1971. This was a new FIRST for British Columbia insofar as Open Pit Mining is concerned, Four of the five originally scheduled teams demonstrated their knowledge and skill in working out solutions to assigned rescue pro- blems. The Cassiar team demonstrated two rescue situations, namely; rescuing a victim buried in an av- alanche (see accompanying photos), and a rescue on lake ice, (see photo). W. Giachino, Mine Supt. and coaches Kinky Borsato and Bill Dobie accompanied the team to the demonstration and the unanimous opinion is that the Cassiar team's performance was tops. Congratulations are extended to: Capt. Albert Kutsche; V-Capt. Fred Venzi; Livio Fregonese; Henry Hawkins; Glen Smith; Tom Lobbes; and Chuck Gander. Along with the men from the other teams, we could say they are the pioneers of Open Pit Mine Rescue and if the interest and en- Avalanche Problem. thusiasm demonstrated by all these men is continued on in the years to come, the Mining Industry will have an invaluable asset to the benefit of all concerned. na Ce Be Oe nog Sc Iee Rescue Problem.
