And, | think, | know the reason why? So far as | know, majority of the East Indians who have settled in Canada are from a rural background with no education, what so- ever, Also, residents of Canada think that those of the East Indians who can speak English language, learn the language, only after coming up here. And | would like to point out that they are right on their part. But that doesn’t mean that East Indians, on the whole, can’t read, write and speak English. Till 1947, we were under British rule and the present educational pattern in India is greatly influenced by the British system of Education. | would also like to point out here that English is (1) a second laguage in India and (2) medium of instruction in all the professional courses there, is English. Also it’s a library language in India. After coming to Cassiar, | found it to be a much better ‘ place to live in, as compared to Vancouver. It’s peaceful, quiet and has a friendly atmosphere, Everybody seems to eee ee EE In the end | would like to say that, if by writing the above paragraphs | have offended any person, whosoever, emo- tionally or otherwise, | am sorry, because that wasn’t my motive in writing my ‘impressions’ about the place. All | had in mind was to correct your opinion of East Indians, if at all | can, Although it has been said that ‘First impres- sions is the last impression’, but so far | know my first impressions are not always my last impression. Finally | would like to thank all those people and families who made me feel at home here. by Aruna Midha Fy EC Sa SOFTBALL Eldon Hardy and John Drzimotta will be playing Softball in the Senior “’B.”’ Western Championship Tournament, in Winnipeg on Sept. 2, 1980. - GOOD LUCK TO YOU BOTH! HELP WANTED! “In the Surien’ As the heavy rains seeped through the roof and flooded our decks ,I realized what kind of a month July would be. With the summer at full tilt, even the pool regulars packed their bags in search of sunlight. Though they were replaced with hot, sweaty tourists in search of showers the attendance dropped sharply. Many pilot programs were introduced, though if it was a lack of people or a poor choice of pilots, none were successful. Fun and Float Hour was an exception. Congratulations are extended to Don Toth and John Wong for successfully completing our BRONZE MEDALLION course. They'll be shooting for their BRONZE CROSS this August. Thanks to Ann Erickson who provided a fun learning experience in SMALL CRAFT SAFETY. Over thirty kids and some adults joined in to learn the parts of a canoe and how to be safe in and around them. know each other by face.
