Pacific Rim Tour

I am pleased to announce
that Patrick Ryan has been sei-—
ected as the C.S.S. represent—
ative for the 1991 Pacific Tour
sponsored by the Ministry of Ed-
ucation. The tour this year in-
cludes stops in Hong Kong, north—
ern Thailand and a day visit to
Burma.

The annual Christmas Concert
was held on December 21. Pres-—
entations of note included songs
by our Choral Music class, skits
by our Drama class, a combination
special rendition of the "Twelve
days of Christmas" by our Grade 8
students and staff choir and of
course, a visit from Santa Claus.

Intramural Report

The C.S.S. Indoor Baseball
League was won for the second
year in a row by the "Giants"
whe went through the season and
the playoffs undefeated. Congra-
tulations to the team members whoa
include Tricia Gorski, Bradley
Creyke, David "Kevin Mitchell”
Poppy, Will Clark, David Liddle,
Jackie Foblin, and Alan Artica.

The Indoor Baseball seasan
has been followed by Indoor Sac—
cer. The league this year is
divided into a junior division ¢&S
& 9's) and a senior division (16,
11, i2’%s). The reason for this
decision was to develop a greater
interest in intramural play with
the grade 8 & 9 students.

New School Update

It is anticipated that ten—
ders will be called on the pro—
posed new high school in Febru—
ary. As part of this article I

have enclosed the latest plan for
the exterior of the building,
showing a southern exposure.

in preparing for the G.E.D. exam—
ination, scheduled for Cassiar on

March 15 & 16 1991.

The General Education Devel—
opment Tests are a series of five
exams in the areas of English,
Social Studies, Natural Science,
Literature and Math.

The G.E.D. tests provide an
opportunity for adults to earn an
official document stating that
they have a grade 12 equivalency
standing which may assist them in
qualifying for better jobs and
admission toa post-secondary in-
stitutions.

To write the exam you must
be 19 years old and have been out
of school for one year.

ticket for at least two years and
have worked around Commercial and
Industrial equipment.

DAWSON CREEK RESIDENTS COMPLETE
AHCOTE

Ten Dawson Creek residents
recently celebrated their suc—
cessful completion of the Alaska
Highway Consortium on Teacher
Education program. Elaine Bal—
zere, Ineke Cook, Terry Dechief,
Mary Wiltse—Fields, Norine
Koecher, Emily Landry, Michelle
Fandall, Kathy Sawchuk, Shawna
Stewart, and Jane Valair were
congratulated at a dinner held at
Northern Lights College Dawson
Creek on December 4.

Presentations were made by
Dave Nybakken of School District
393, Alice Marquardt of the Peace
River South Teacher’s Associa-—
tion, Jim Kassen and Finola Fin-
lay of Northern Lights College,
Cornel Hamm of Simon Fraser Uni-—
verisity, and Roberta McKay and
Sandy Troudt of the AHCOTE pro—
gram. —

"Five of these students are
now certified ta teach in BC —
the others are only a few courses
short of completing the require—
ments for certification or degree
willing to work closely with
these students in the classroom
during their recent practicum,"
she added.

AHCOTE allows students toa
complete the requirements for a

Standard Teacher’s certificate —

Elementary in Dawson Creek, Fort
Nelson, or Fort St. John in 2.5
years with a six week summer term
at SFU. The program is offered
on a goaperative basis between
School Districts 59, 60, and 81,
Simon Fraser University and Nor-
thern Lights College. The close
involvement between these three
groups has made AHCOTE very suc—
cessful in northern BC.
