Certificates have been received from the Mining Association for the 41 men who took part in the lectures on Principles of Safety, from January 21 — 23. The instructor was Mr. J.O. Wolf, author of the Ode to Cassiar featured in & e last issue. ee He HH OH From March 4 — 15a total of 45 persons attended First Aid Courses conducted by Mr. Dave White of St. John’s Ambulance in Vancouver. The instruction and the whole- hearted participation by the candidates made for interesting and often humorous classes. After examinations from March 17 — 21 ten candidates will upgrade their present St. John’s standing and the remainder will receive their certificates. The photos below were taken at some of the classes. CURLING NEWS The 15th Annual Cassiar Bonspiel was a great success again this year. The teams were mainly local with some people who had retired their brooms being called out at the last hour. Outside rinks came from Clinton Creek, Esco-Vancouver, Firestone-Dawson Creek, General Enterprizes-Whitehorse, and the Bob Baily rink came in from Watson. Two Cassiar school rinks entered, Leo Duri, Brian Caron, Denise Borsato and Lynn Samson made up one team and Corrine Nitti, Don Samson, Janice Zemenchik and Jeanne Maxson made up the other. These kids were game right through and gave their opponents excellent competition and several dark moments. Both teams won one and lost two games. Special prizes were awarded to — Al Kutsche, Barney Kovacs, Tom Glynn and Sandra Irwin for the first team out. Sandra is the youngest person to ever have curled in the Cassiar Bonspiel. The Bonspielers rink was
