Cassiars New Retail Store Opens For many years the residents of Cassiar patiently awaited the day when there would be the convenience of adequate shopping facilities in the town. This day came on July 10th, 1973, one of the most beautiful northern summer days, a perfect setting for the opening of such a needed facility, At 9:00 a.m, sharp the doors were opened for business by an interim staff of three ladies, one high-school student and the manager, These fine people of the community made it possible for our store to be opened on schedule, in spite of the absence of the regular store help. The regular clerical staff were off the job since Thursday p.m., July 5th when they went on strike, causing the whole operation of the company to close down temporarily as of Friday night shift, July 6th. The strike continued until a settle- ment on an issue of the vacation schedule in the new collective agreement was reached.
