14. MOUNT HASKIN ‘Two types of deposits are associated with a small granitic stock that forms the peak of this mountain 18-miles east of Cassiar. Both have been explored by Della Mines over the last 5 years. Molybdenum and tungsten occur to the northwest and massive sulphides in skarn containing copper, lead, zinc and bismuth occur to the southeast. The latter showings have been traced in two adits and a fairly extensive deposit has been outlined: Work is expected to continue in 1974. 15. MOUNT REED Two deposits also occur on this mountain, three miles southeast of Mt. Haskin. Moly- bdenum-tungsten is found near an alaskite dyke and a silver-lead-zinc vein occupies a fault zone in limestone. Joe Reed optioned these showings to Brettland Mines and they were trenched and drilled by Glen Copper and Pacific Petroleums Ltd. 16. JOE REED'S HILL This well-known hazard on the Cassiar road was, in the past, a scene of intense placer gold activity. Between 1875 and 1900 a large colony of Chinese prospectors from Vancouver lived at Centreville and hand placer-mined all the bars of McDame Creek. Extensive tailings can be seen along this part of the creek below Joe Reed's hill. (Please pull over to the side and stop your car at the top or bottom of the hill). 17. CENTREVILLE In recent years, George Zimick has operated a small hydraulic sluice here and recovers gold, jade and rhodonite, from which he manufactures jewellery for the local market. 18. MCDAME CANYON Ventures Mining Ltd. has held this ground for 12 years, optioned originally from John Bartle. Erratic high grade stringers of silver-lead-zinc sulphides occur in frac- tures on the walls of McDame Canyon about one mile downstream from Centreville. Laurence Meyer lives here and operates a unique placer operation from a barge anchored in the canyon. 19. MOCCASIN MINES This is better known as Bob Wilm's Camp. A large scale placer-mining operation was conducted here about 1947 by Moccasin Mines. They built the first tote road from the Alaska Highway to this location, 25 miles from Cassiar, and this later became the Cassiar road. Bob Wilms now holds the placer leases and operates a sawmill here. 20. MT. PENDLETON A large quartz vein high on the north slope of this mountain, 3 miles south of Centreville, contains silver-bearing tetrahedrite. A tractor-road was put in to the showings a few years ago, but no recent work has been done. 21. MCDAME POST Tournigan Mines has recently been active- ly exploring the old Beale Carlick barite showings, two miles east of McDame Post, near Atan Lake. Irregular barite zones follow fractures in Atan limestone and con- tain erratic low-grade copper-lead-zinc sulphides. EDMAR SALES WoULD LIKE TO EXPRESS THEIR APPRECIATION AND THANKS TO THE PEOPLE WHO PATRONIZED THEIR BUSINESS ESPECIALLY AT CHRISTMAS TIME. BEST WISHES FOR A SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR, a fo fh Maresaar hf The Cassiar Asbestos Sheet, February, 1974, Page 13 4 Another fun day was held in the Arena on Saturday, January 26th and was verv well attended. Exhibition games were played bv the Pee Wee A's and B's and also by the Bantam Hockey Teams. Manv narents were pleasantly surprised at the vast inmrove- ment of their boys in the game of hockev. To the delight of all those nresent Mr. Graham Baker and Mr. Ray Lawti (Pee-Wee) put on a tremendous show as the Ringling Clowns of the ice and were continually coming un with some kind of fun gimmick, from a two bladed hockey stick to the largest broom ball in captivity. Thanks fellows for a really good show! The snowmobilers once again came awav the winners in the challenge series of broom ball this time against the Anglican Church Terros. The challenge is out once again bv the snowmobilers for the next fun night game but thev're sure that there just isn't the kind of comnetition available to beat them here in Cassiar and. they may have to bring in outside teams to make the challenge worthwhile. Illow about it - anv challenges? The evening of fun came to a close with The Game of the Year in hockev which saw the Old-Old Timers lace un their skates and gamely went out on the ice against the Cassiar Girls Team. The game ended in a draw 1 - 1 but it was good to see that some of the Old Timers could still show a snark of talent that todays nlayers could use. Old smoothy Bill Akev can still show voung Ken a few tricks with the blades and Ross Knowles showed why he was once a nro-hockev plaver. Would be nice to see them get organized and nlay a bit more repular. (llow about it fellows?) But if vou do tell Steve that his stick has to meet repulation size. The night was finished off with nublic skating for all to enjov. This writer hones that this tyne of activitv is kent un and nossiblv exnanded as so manv seem to get much enjoyment out of it. Anv sugges- tions would be greatlv annreciated bv the Arena Rink Association.
