POLICEMEN BECOME TRAVEL DIRECTORS B.C. officers do their share in pro- tecting government's investment in tourism. THE TOURIST and hunter having become important factors men of the B.C. Provincial Police Force have added the role of travel direc- tors to their extensive range of duties. Official discourtesy can undo thou- sands of dollars worth of effort by our tourist agencies heads of the de- partment believe so men of the force are told to be considerate of the stranger and to be as helpful as pos- sible commensurate with their other duties. . To do this the police familiarize themselves with the geography of the province, the industries of the various sections, the game and fishing areas, distances between principal centres and, on the more isolated highways, distances and places where fuel and oil may be purchased so that the tour- ist will not be stranded with an empty tank. And when a tourist contravenes a B.C. regulation unwittingly no offi- cer pounces on him with a sarcastic crack and a notebook ready to chalk up another traffic scalp. The tourist is corrected with tact and courtesy. Constable Gurney Commended for Heroic Act —Photo by Charnell Studio. Sub-Inspector W. J. Thomson of Nanaimo detachment of B.C.
