Mom's and Tots Gym, Crafts and Music Program Often conscientious parents have said, "socialization and room for freedom of movement and expression for my child- ren is extremely important" Mothers, if you would like to see a program in the morn- ings here at the recreation centre for your 3 - 5 year olds, then call me and confirm your support for such a program. If interest is adequate I will work with a com- mittee of mothers to organize an excellant quality of program for you and your children to participate in. Annual Community Club Meeting As you know, January is the month for the election of new officers to the Community Club. I hope you will take an interest in this annual meeting. Let me assure you that the coming year for the executive of the Community Club will be an exciting and rewarding one. Sports Fun Nights ‘ Zz The last point I want to mention is that every month I will be organizing a fun night at which special acti- vities will be held such as, games involving men workers vs. lady workers or mixed volleyball games or grudge matches ??? any other suggestions? Dances I have had several people tell me that they would like to see regular monthly dances held at the recreation hall I believe this is a good idea and it will be an even better idea with a live band and liquor served. Two im- portant points must be kept in mind though: 1. We must not run in competition with other organiza- tions that would like to hold a dance. 2. We must have versatile music. Organized Sports Activities It has been mentioned by many people that we need more organized activities at the rec hall. I agree but there are several points that must be kept in mind. 1. League sports do tie people down and unless there are enough real keen people that want to play the sport success varies. Perhaps a better approach to organ- ized sports is the one or two day tournament style of events, 2. At this time of year people already have other commitments to such leagues as hockey, curling or skiing. I am certainly prepared to develop both. types of organized sports so, people of Cassiar, if you are interested do register in either the league or tournament style of program. Coffee Houses Both teens and men and women living in the bunkhouses have expressed a.real desire to see an ongoing coffee house program, that is, a place to listen to music be it live or recorded, a place to play cards, chess or table games like monopoly etc, and a place where you can talk, have a coke, coffee, chips etc. This is a good idea and I have séveral thoughts on this PEGS au 1. I would like to make the Lion's Room available for such a program. 2. I would also like to see two separate types of coffee houses - one for the teens and one for the guys and gals in the bunkhouses. 3. %I would like to have those interested in this pro- gram contact me to assist in the organization of such a needed program. Games Room The room with one pool table is not being used to capacity. With a camp of at least 400 single men there is a neéd for at least one more pool table and some other skill games as well. I am presently drawing up plans to accomodate an-additional pool table with the help of Mario Radeka. I would like to get in an "air hockey game" and a "fooz ball game" that are a must for a rec facility like ours. A point we must keep in mind and it may hold up this development is the avail- able space for these activities. Weight Room If any one has seen our weight room with the idea of using it I am sure you have become quickly depressed. Many people have complained about these facilities but at the present it is the best we have to offer. I do ‘want to give hope to you regarding this situation. As soon as more adequate space comes available in the Rec Hall I would like to see a larger room with the neces- sary basic equipment that ts lacking to develop a bal- anced weight training or body building program. Sports Equipment I know our sports equipment has run down a little put bear with us because we have an order to Sparling Sports to upgrade the equipment and ee order should be in by February. Movies We have one bulb in our projector that is weak and action has been taken in getting new bulbs - we are waiting for the order to arrive and it should be in soon So our movies should be bright again. Cross Country Skiing Many people have expressed an interest in this activi ity and I will be approaching those in the ski club to see if we can organize a cross country picnic and clinic. Perhaps a workshop could be organized in the near future, That's all for now, and may I say "keep on responding" so that I can work to meet your needs.
