SOCIAL ROUND The holiday season in Cassiar is once again over for another year. We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and wishes are extended for a very happy, and prosperous New Year to everyone. ee He HH In the busy weeks before Christmas a number of people were seen enjoying a ride and the lovely scenery along the Cassiar road. Aha! The annual Christmas tree hunt. Could it be that fathers and husbands really don’t enjoy this as much as we'd like to think? But no matter, aside from frozen feet and wet clothes, the trees were brought home and enjoyed by young and old of our community. Thanks is extended to those in the Carpenter Shop who brought in the trees for the Main Office and the Ladies Staffhouse. The rushed social world of Cassiar was highlighted this year by four employees’ Christmas parties held in the Guest Lodge Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 12th, 13th and 14th. Hosted by Mr. & Mrs. A.C. Caron and supported by the Department Heads, much good will and Christmas Cheer was exchanged. Also, this enabled everyone to meet the newcomers and even to renew old acquaintances. Here's hoping that it will become an annual event. Many Christmas parties were held during the four-day holiday, one being a cocktail party jointly hosted by Mr. & Mrs. C.N. Gander and Mr. & Mrs. G.B. Blair. It was held in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Gander and needless to say, a good time was had by all and there was a goodly amount of warm (and iced) Christmas Cheer. At the Plumb’s Christmas Party it has been said that they really outdid themselves in the decorating of their house. A lovely party and a lot of fun. Mr. & Mrs. Kovacs, Mr. & Mrs. Harris, Mr. & Mrs. Giachino, Mr. & Mrs. Dobie and Mr. & Mrs. Shuffler also hosted Christmas parties during the season, not to mention all the other lights that were on late and roofs that were jumping in the ‘wee sma’ hours all over. our town. A lovely Midnight Mass was held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a candlelight service and Holy Com- munion were held at All Saints Anglican Community Church. A few small gatherings were held before and after services and it is hoped everyone enjoyed the celebration of Christmas Day. On Christmas Day, a very tasty lunch was given the boys in the bunkhouses and a lovely dinner was served in the evening at the Cafeteria. Thanks to the catering staff for a real Christmas dinner including candlelight, wine and music. ’ A sumptuous dinner was also held at the nurses’ residence followed by a party. The proverbial “Little Bird” just told me: It seems that during the holiday season everyone digs into their closet to get out their best clothes to wear. But not so for some, from what we hear. There are a few people here who dig into their drawers and get out their best P. J.’s ..... And what about those people on Kennedy street who had things (?) coming down their chimney on Christmas night. Perhaps Santa forgot to leave a gift??? On the evening of December 26th Rose and August Ebbing- hoff were surprised when a party already in progress dropped in on them to wish them a Merry Christmas. A very good time was had by all and August and Rose were the best of hosts. Also on the 26th, a large party was held at the home of Mrs. Dinah Creyke, with the party at Ebbinghoff's joining them. (Somehow it seems a few people got lost on the way to Cryke’s). This gathering lasted till the wee hours and the second day of Christmas was well celebrated. At this time we would like to bid farewell and good luck to John Gumbley who resided in Cassiar for 15 months. Originally from New Zealand, John came here, as most people do, to make some money. He was well-known around town for his green half-ton truck with the pooch in the back. John plans to take a ski-ing holiday for 2 months and then board the “Canberra” for a cruise to Australia and New Zealand, then back to Aussie to work. He will really be missed on ski-hill and around the town. Farewell Little John, from your band of Merry Men! Bob and Sherry Sethen, who run the R & S Chevron hosted a very weli attended Christmas party on December 27th. Held in the cabin up behind the garage, the noise could not disturb anyone and all enjoyed a very good party. The buffet was marvellous and the cafeteria wasn’t the only place with candles, wine and music! Going back into November, Barbara Rattray celebrated her 21st birthday at the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Jock Rattray of Good Hope Lake. A memorable coming of age, and from what I hear, very well attended by Cassiarites. Happy Birthday, and welcome to OUR world. During the holidays the older teens of the community were home again to celebrate the Christmas season with their parents. Parents of younger children welcomed back their sons and daughters, and in some instances, baby-sitters. Was nice to see them all back, guess the next time is Easter, eh? The visitors to Cassiar for the holidays included Mrs. John Pavlik who came up to spend the holidays with her husband. She stayed with the Ebbinghoffs. Don MacQuarrie visited with Tom and Norma Lobbes. We all will remember him from working in the retail store. Mrs. Garret and son Micheal visited daughter Pat for Christmas. Carol Mathieson, who nursed here during the summer, came in for New Year’s Eve. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves and will come back again. Congratulations go out to Kinky and Bernice Borsato who celebrated their 25th (Silver) Wedding Anniversary on Decem- ber 26th. A small party, attended by a group of close friends was held in their home, hosted by son Roger and daughter Arlene. The Borsato children presented their parents with a
