The Grand Opening of the Cocktail Section of the Lounge took place February 21st. We shall feature pictures of the happy tipplers in the next issue. ee © Here it is the beginning of a new year, and a new decade. In Cassiar, ten years has brought a lot of change, all for the better- ment of the town, and people who stuck it out here that long. Many people have come and gone, leaving behind a good many friends, and taking with them memories that they will never forget. We hope that with the beginning of the ‘’70"’ decade, Cassiar will continue to grow and develop as in the last ten years. 2 2 & After a whirlwind of activity in December, Cassiarites settled down, maybe to live up to their New Year's resolutions... at least for a few weeks. Then — a change! The 16th Annual Curling Bonspiel Hit the ice on Thursday, January 29th. Out came the boots, sweaters, and pins from many games long past. The curling rink was a veritable hive of activity; the Snake Pit was being readied for the onslaught of thirsty curlers. Finally, the day dawned snowy, and — WARM! What to do? Why, carry on in the best tradition. What's the difference if there is a little bit of water on the ice? The ice was a little heavy for the first few games, but then it got worse. We had two swimming pools in Cassiar. Needless to say, thanks to the Snake Pit, the games carried on, and the next day dawned bright and cold. The God of Curling had heard Danny Demitri’s fervent prayers for cold weather, and the ice became keen and verrrrry light for the rest of the games. Visiting rinks were from Clinton Creek, Whitehorse, and Lower Post. Due to unknown conditions, the team from Watson Lake didn’t make it. It seems that one of our visiting rinks, the ones who were staying in House 212, took a notion that someone was in a hurry to get outside. What faster way than through an open window. Atta boy Chuck, the only way to get ahead. Our loyal bonspielers this year were: Jim Durham, Bob Munro, Norma Lobbes, and Marlene Venzi. Bottoms up, guys and gals, and here’s to another one next year! Sunday afternoon saw the presentations made of trophies and prizes, and all of them were very well-deserved. Bruised elbows and knees were seen everywhere, and the all too-frequent sound of ‘“‘“Someone’s been dancing on my head!" closed the Bonspiel for another year. *s* & & # On Saturday, January 24th, about one-third of Cassiar’s population took the arduous trek to Watson Lake for the show- down between the Cassiar All Stars, and the Watson Lake hockey team. We were pleased to hear that both lounges are still in operation. (Hockey. can be a very thirsty game.) Needless to say, failure befell our monarchs, and they turned their backs on Watson Lake, saying: “Wait til you come to our ice!” Better luck next time, Asbestos Kings! 2 epee, B25 E 4 We WILL win! He scored?!?
