This Co-Op term, | have been working on GST/HST and Income Tax files with the Canada Revenue Agency as a student auditor. It has been fantastic, both the training and the experience | have received from the CRA have been invaluable. In my experience, CRA tends to focus on your learning so you can better yourself and make informed choices when it comes to your career. They have even given me over 30 hours of GST/HST and Income Tax audit training. You don’t need to be in Commerce, or in a Co-Op program to land a job either. The CRA provides a multitude of opportunities in a variety of different directions. If you go to the CRA job postings link below, you will see the various career categories available at CRA; from Human Resources to Sciences, and even Supply Chain Management. There are also listings for specialized programs, like the Aboriginal Student Employment Program (ASEP). You should start thinking about a career before you graduate, not after. You won't have to struggle for a job after university if you get the experience now. If you’re not sure what you want to do, try job shadowing, taking a part- time job, or applying to the Co-Op program. You might find that you will learn just as much on the job, as you do in the classroom.
